Re: No Password was installed - total newbie - other stuff asking for password?

Ah. Seems I was ill informed by somebody else.

Instead of pressing the Escape key repeatedly after powering on the computer, press the down arrow key repeatedly after powering on the computer. That should get you into the menu instead of the useless grub> prompt.

Re: Get Libre Office open hyperlinks in Mullvad browser

Moved this to the software & applications forum. This isn't about getting help with script your are writing. If Mullvad doesn't integrate well with the Linux desktop that is something to maybe get help with in this forum first.

Re: Python 3 editor that works?

How and why are you compiling Python code? Python is an interpreted language so normally there is no compile step, you just run your program after making edits.

In Geany simply click the run button.

Re: No Password was installed - total newbie - other stuff asking for password?

Linux Mint can't be installed without setting a password. What the person that installed it for you must have done is: 1) Configure your account to automatically log in, so it doesn't prompt you for a login password after booting 2) Didn't give that password to you so now you can't run administrativ...

Re: EXT2 Being Deprecated in the Kernel

Deprecated doesn't mean removed. It means you're recommended to stop using it (from kernel 6.9) and sometime in coming years it will be removed (from a kernel > 6.9). ext2 can't handle timestamps after 2038 hence they're taking these steps now. To avoid another Y2K. More info and background: https:/...

Re: Menu item for shell script opens it as text file instead of running it

What is the command you put in the menu launcher?

Also "launch in terminal" doesn't do anything here. Your script is not taking user input so the terminal will exit after the script is done.

Re: EA_NOT_FOUND error when running asus-fan-control

AFAIK that means ACPI bug in the BIOS. Possibly a BIOS update can fix it but don't raise your hopes too much. Maybe a kernel upgrade can help though again don't raise hopes. If you're using a 5.15 kernel try installing the 6.5 kernel. You can do so through Update Manager's View > Linux kernels menu....

Re: Problems with the forum

I've not experienced performance issues the past few hours. When you had problems yesterday, was that about 13½ hours ago from the time of my reply? A backup runs once a day at 21:40 CET and that causes a couple of minutes of interruption.

Re: Cannot find Distrobox

Distrobox will be available on Linux Mint 22 mid this year. It is not available in the repositories of older Linux Mint releases. On older Linux Mint releases I think you can install Distrobox by adding their PPA to your system: https://launchpad.net/~michel-slm/+archive/ubuntu/distrobox. In the Sof...

Can you add system information? Open System Reports program, go to System Information on the left and then click Copy button bottom left. Paste the copied information in a reply here.

Welke versie van Linux Mint en gebruik je Cinnamon, MATE of Xfce? Als je het niet zeker weet kijk in de system info app of open een terminal venster and voer het commando inxi -S uit. Re: Multiple programs, Flatpak install sequence

On Linux you should prefer to use KeePassXC also available on Flathub. That is fully compatible with KeePass 2 but where KeePass 2 is written in C#, requires Microsoft's .NET platform and won't give you a native look and feel on Linux, KeePassXC is developed in C++ and runs natively on Linux, macOS ...

Re: Multiple programs, Flatpak install sequence

I may have been that commenter. That holds true generally for apps using the same ecosystem. I.e., GNOME apps use the GNOME runtimes and KDE apps use the KDE runtimes. The flatpaks for the apps themselves will often be about the same size or a bit smaller than the system packages for the same apps. ...

Re: Adding a drive to steam (newbie!)

Couple of things: - run lsblk -o +FSTYPE,UUID and share the output here; that will tell us how the 2nd drive is formatted and mounted - run flatpak list --app and check if you have Valve's Steam in the output -- answer here if that is the case You should set up the 2nd drive to be automatically moun...

Re: Step-by-step website loading?

You can likely do that with the developer tools built in to most web browsers. Press Ctrl+Shift+I (letter i) to open the developer tools. Now I've only done the step-by-step debugging of JavaScript code for one website and I don't recall exactly how in the developer tools but if you google for your ...
