Re: Usrmerge Already the Newest Version?

Then IDK. That was the solution in an earlier post about a same problem. I'm not telling you to do this but I'd be comfortable to move the files from /lib32 to /usr/lib32, then make /lib32 a link to /usr/lib32 (sudo ln -sfr /usr/lib32 /lib32) and reboot. If you do go that route make a Timeshift back...

Re: Usrmerge Already the Newest Version?

Run:

Code: Select all

sudo dpkg-reconfigure usrmerge
That will rerun usrmerge and should hopefully merge those 2 directories for you.

You can upgrade in place from Linux Mint 21.1 to 21.3 through Update Manager. See the guide here: https://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=4629

It was part of trying to fix a problem.

Resynchronizing was complete about 6-7 hours ago from the time of this post.

Use a different one? For example Black Box will let you turn the header bar off: https://flathub.org/apps/com.raggesilver.BlackBox (see 2nd screenshot). You can install the flatpak through Software Manager.

The forum is resynchronizing post counts. It will take a while to complete.

Re: Usrmerge Already the Newest Version?

So the culprit is /lib32 and /usr/lib32 both exist as normal directories. usrmerge would make /lib32 a symbolic link to /usr/lib32. Because it's not, mintreport complains.

Can you check what is in both directories? Is maybe the one or the other directory empty?

Re: Usrmerge Already the Newest Version?

Yeah, that looks okay. I had to look it up but here's what the code checks: https://github.com/linuxmint/mintreport/blob/master/usr/share/linuxmint/mintreport/reports/100_usrmerge-not-done/MintReportInfo.py#L18. In short for each existing directory /bin, /sbin, /lib, /libx32, /lib64 and /lib32 it co...

Re: Usrmerge Already the Newest Version?

Maybe you reverted usrmerge somehow. What does the command find /{,usr} -maxdepth 1 -type l -ls run on a terminal output? Should output similar to this: 1 0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 7 Jan 9 12:59 /bin -> usr/bin 3402 0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 7 Jan 9 12:59 /lib -> usr/lib 3403 0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root ...

If you aren't paying for a product or service then YOU ARE the product or service. Generally true but even if you're paying you're probably still the product these days. Can't still the data hunger of companies. Linux Mint is free but doesn't make you the product; https://www.linuxmint.com/privacy....

I talked about the Ubuntu/Debian package base repository. For Linux Mint 22, Pinta is no longer available in that. Flatpak/snap is the only official distribution of Pinta.

Re: Updating Pinta

The official way to get the latest Pinta version is to install the flatpak or snap. The proprietary snap store is disabled on Linux Mint so you'd use the flatpak. Flathub is tightly integrated on Linux Mint, you can install apps from there through Software Manager and updates arrive through Update M...

Re: Brave Browser - Two questions about Shields

IDK if/where you can access the Shields exceptions through the UI. A grep search answers the exceptions are stored in the JSON file ~/.config/BraveSoftware/Brave-Browser/Default/Preferences . With the jq tool you can easily query that file. This lists all exceptions: jq '.profile.content_settings.ex...

Re: Do authors of LM want their OS was used more?

The filename of the ISO is changed, it has an extra " (1)" in it. Possibly by downloading the same file twice your web browser does that. The sha256sums file only has entries for the original filenames so the tool can't match the file you have, there's nothing to compare with for that file...

No, support requests are closed after 6 months and can't be reopened. If you have a new/better solution for a problem you're welcome to summarize the issue in a new topic in the Tutorials forum, maybe link back to the closed one you found, and describe the solution in that.

Re: Password protect backup drives: best way to do this?

No. 1 or 2, not both. You can either use the easy option of LUKS + Linux filesystem, which can be read by any Linux OS but Windows can't. Or you can install VeraCrypt on all OSes that you need to read the backup drives with and — waves vaguely in the air — do something with VeraCrypt to encrypt the ...

Re: Password protect backup drives: best way to do this?

Depends on where you'll use the backup drives. I use LUKS, full disk encryption for Linux. It's simple to do. Open the Disks app, select the external drive on the left then as the situation may be: - first format the entire drive from the hamburger menu, then create a new partition in the free disk ...

That's a comment line in /etc/fstab. Meaningless other than a reminder what the device name for a partition was at time of installation. Device names aren't fixed.
