Re: Homepage: Link to the Forum isn't https:// (anymore)

We've updated all the links on the https://linuxmint.com/links.php page, to add https where websites support it. Thanks for letting us know! The redirect to https sometimes not happening is upstream to us and likely affects many more websites besides us. We'll have to wait a bit how that resolves. A...

Re: Homepage: Link to the Forum isn't https:// (anymore)

Not what I'm getting: $ curl -v http://forums.linuxmint.com * Connected to forums.linuxmint.com (192.124.249.8) port 80 (#0) > User-Agent: curl/7.58.0 *< HTTP/1.1 200 OK Even if I do curl -v forums.linuxmint.com it sends me the https redirect. Re: Homepage: Link to the Forum isn't https:// (anymore)

I can't reproduce this. Using the HTTP link to either will result in the server sending back a HTTP 301 response, redirecting the web browser to use HTTPS instead. Possibly the issue is related to web browser cache. I'd like to know which web browser you were using and whether you can reproduce this...

Re: What would you do?

Personally I would go without Windows but that's just because I've managed to move to alternatives to Windows-only programs long time ago. The time sync issue between Windows and Linux Mint you can solve by switching Linux Mint to not use UTC time. You can do so on Linux Mint 19 with the following c...

Re: Mint is like the cigarettes and should come with a warning

The comparison doesn't hold up. Linux Mint isn't a cause for at least a dozen types of cancer like cigarettes. Nor does it cost hundreds (if not thousands) of dollars a year to use. It's quite the opposite. Linux Mint is more like quitting smoking.

Re: What would you do?

Both desktops should be able to run any Linux Mint edition you want. As for disk space there's only a small difference between the editions. Safely assume the operating system needs about 10 GB for installation. It's really up to you. If you managed to fill up your 60 GB disk it's probably because y...

Re: Firefox Search issue

This is very weird and I really can't explain it. It's not present on a default 18.3 install (I no longer have 18.1 here but it's using the exact same Firefox package as 18.3 so useful for this testing). Did you perhaps install Firefox from somewhere else? Run this command and share its output here:...

Re: CAD designs for Mint Project

The team is always interested in great 3D logo wallpapers. I don't have immediate idea for what we could use an animation for but perhaps one of the forum members will pitch in with an idea. To be clear, I wouldn't know what to do with a 3D model to turn it into a wallpaper. So if turning it into a ...

Moved here as a more suitable location as this is entirely unrelated to Linux Mint development. I'd suggest Duolingo to get started learning French: https://en.duolingo.com/course/fr/en/Learn-French-Online. Or if you have something similar to what we have here where the municipality sponsors communi...

Just keep a timer running when trying any games. To be eligible for refund the purchase has to have been made in the past 2 weeks and you can't have more than 2 hours (120 minutes) of playtime.

Re: I can't launch Gparted.

Googling that error finds other users with the same issue. They have pinned it down to either being because of issue around Wayland compatibility (but Linux Mint doesn't use Wayland yet, it uses X), issues with broken libraries or users having installed GParted from outside the repository. Can you c...

Re: Harde schijf (intern) aansluiten

Re: Linux Mint 19 FDE across multiple drives—the right way?

No, same. It's a very old article but I couldn't find anything recent conclusive specific for Ubuntu/Linux Mint at the time. Perhaps hibernate will work fine if you let the installer handle everything for FDE or even with custom install. Could be my google-fu failing me. On Linux Mint installs I as ...

Re: need for more partitions than default?

It doesn't really serve a purpose on its own unless you have a specific need. If you have multiple hard disks obviously. Or if you intend to run a server (though disk quotas should better be used in that case). One use can be to have a separate /home partition. So that when installing a next major v...
