Re: SSD trim enabled by defualt in 19.1

The command fstrim -av is run automatically once a week, through the fstrim timer & service (you can see its status with systemctl status fstrim ). It will trim all mounted filesystems on devices that support the discard operation. You don't need to do anything yourself, it runs every week (when it'...

Re: Learning bash scripting (trying) - how to get regex match into a variable

Ah, I see. Trying to find regexp it only turned up Tcl manpage for me. Haven't done anything with m4 but just goes to show there will be many different ways to get things done :)

Re: Finding desktop settings for an Ansible script

You can install dconf-tools to get the dconf editor GUI, to explore if any of these settings can be found in dconf / gsettings. What have you tried so far to pin the location of where these configurations are stored? Personally how I'd approach it is: 1. touch a file to have a timestamp, like with c...

Re: Learning bash scripting (trying) - how to get regex match into a variable

regexp is a builtin command of the Tcl shell if I'm not mistaken, not of the Bash shell. Can't use that in Bash. You can use the Bash shell's parameter expansion to achieve the same. Something like this: #!/bin/bash fname="2019_0126_205955_831A.MP4" number=${fname##*_} number=${number%%A.*} echo $nu...

Re: [19.1 Mate] Change MDM for choise AD domain user

I have no experience with active directory but note that Linux Mint 19.1 used LightDM as display manager, not MDM. Searching for possible earlier solutions on Linux Mint 19.x / Ubuntu 18.04 you want something that works for LightDM.

Re: File extension statistics ?

File extensions don't mean much in Linux, but sure. Perhaps a command like this: find . -type f -printf '%f\n' | grep '^[^.].*\.' | awk -F. '{print $NF}' | sort | uniq -c | sort -n This finds all files in the current directory and prints their name, ignores any files that start with a dot, prints th...

Re: How to remove Franz?

It's available from the website as either a .deb file (which you would be able to remove through Synaptic or command apt purge franz ) or an AppImage file. Perhaps you used the AppImage file? I'd try searching for Franz in your home directory as perhaps the AppImage installed there? You can try comm...

"A terminal built on web technologies." What madness is this. Are we going to need ad blockers in our terminal? I can't reproduce your issue after installing, running and then uninstalling hyper. Some stuff probably still left in your home directory you can remove: rm -rvf ~/.hyper.js ~/.hyper...

Not sure if serious but I'll bite as the resident gremlin. GNOME is free software project https://www.gnome.org/. Re: Opera browser won't access ticketing site

Like kevin987 said above, Opera 12 is long obsoleted and shouldn't be used at all. You should switch to Opera 58 but looking at your system specs you don't have that option; Opera 58 is only available for 64 bit systems. The same goes for Google Chrome BTW.

I think your computer is actually a 64-bit computer and you installed a 32-bit Linux Mint when you should have installed a 64-bit Linux Mint system. It is common knowledge now, that a lot of software is not being maintained or developed anymore for 32-bit computers. I'm trying to understand the rel...
