Re: Chrome under Linux Mint 17.2

Indeed. Copy the file ~/.config/google-chrome/Default as this has your bookmarks. I think the other file to copy is ~/.config/google-chrome/Last\ Tabs (if copying through terminal, escape the space in the filename with a backslash as shown) and that has the last open tabs. Or possibly the ~/.config/...

Re: Question regarding flow of video drivers.

Linux Mint 19 uses the Linux kernel and graphics stack from Ubuntu 18.04. So yeah, likely issues you're having would carry over to other Ubuntu 18.04 derivatives.

Re: About linux mint debían edition

On LMDE 2 you can't run the latest Cinnamon version as its library versions are too old. But LMDE 3 is being worked on right now and it will have the same (latest) Cinnamon version as Linux Mint 19. A public beta can likely be expected in next few weeks. Keep an eye on https://blog.linuxmint.com/ wh...

Re: Chrome under Linux Mint 17.2

To confirm configuration issue on the system that has the problem, create a new user account there (through Users & Groups in menu), log in to the new user and then try starting Google Chrome from there. Does that work?

Re: Does LMDE support Flatpak and Snap?

Sorry, to clarify, I mean as in it's unlikely to be supported in Software Manager on LMDE 3. What you can do on command line to possibly installs snaps that way is something other.

Re: Suggestion: For Mint 20 to go full Debian

Disclaimer: my personal opinion. Red Hat, CentOS and Fedora are thriving despite Red Hat's IPO 19 years ago. IPOs by itself aren't a negative. Sure, there were a few bumps in the road with Linux Mint based on Ubuntu as you could read in this month's news. How should these few bumps affect what Linux...

Re: linuxmint 19 backgrounds settings do not work

It all works here from the v2 ISO. Have you applied updates in Update Manager? I can't think of a possible reason for this aside from some patch update for Cinnamon or Muffin you haven't install yet. Or possibly issue with your graphics card driver? Suggest to add the output of command inxi -Fxrz ru...

There is a review on Amazon here that sounds like it just works: https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/RZX3TJ4O0T1GZ/ref=cm_cr_othr_d_rvw_ttl?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B01BMJ0Y4O [...] The special function keys (volume, playback, etc) are working out of the box with no configuration on Debian Linux unstable...

Re: Mint 19 on Coffee Lake Running Okay?

Coffee lake was released 10 months ago and Intel generally have kernel drivers in place before chips are released; fine tuning and fixing any bugs in the months after release. So you can expect it to work without issues on Linux kernel 4.15. I'd be more cautious with the motherboard components. Chec...

Re: Software that you would like to have for Linux

The software I would like to have for Linux is an equivalent to Visual FoxPro (VFP). It's the all-purpose RAD tool which M$ decided to kill because it kept the small to medium size (and some large) businesses from buying their more expensive MS SQL + C# / VB tool combination. What about Harbour htt...

Re: Email server question

Yes. If you use their webmail you're connecting through HTTPS protocol. If you're using an email client you're connecting through IMAP or POP protocol (hopefully with SSL/TLS encryption!). Those all run on different ports normally. Email providers likely, for security purposes, log how and from wher...

Re: Linux Mint Debian Edition 3

As there are no Wine packages in the Cindy (LMDE 3) repository I think safe to assume you'll get the the Wine packages from the Stretch (Debian 9) repositories.

LMDE 3 progress report from the monthly news: LMDE 3 will feature 2 different installers. In addition to our own “live-installer”, you’ll also find Calamares in the application menu. Although live-installer works well and is very easy for us to maintain, troubleshoot and improve, Calamares is ahead ...

Re: Compiing from source when a newer version is required

I take it you're using Linux Mint 17.x? Linux Mint 19 has gdal 2.2.3. I doubt it will cause issues with other programs, unless you're using other "geospatial" programs that use gdal and those need it to be a specific older version. You would probably know that better than me. In any case, to safely ...

Re: Where is the best place to submit bugs for packages in Ubuntu repos?

We have a troubleshooting guide that covers this question: https://linuxmint-troubleshooting-guide.readthedocs.io/en/latest/index.html Before reporting a bug at least make sure you've ticked all the boxes mentioned in the "when" chapter. You can ask for help with that by posting your observation on ...
