Re: FAT32 Parition After Replacing Widows 11?
Yes. The UEFI, the BIOS, can only read from a FAT32 formatted ESP (EFI System Partition). Hence it's made a separate partition and it needs to be at least 512 MiB (=537 MB).

Re: How to downgrade Gimp to ver 2.8.16
You don't need to downgrade. That's a bit knee-jerk. Open Edit -> Preferences from GIMP's menu, go to Interface > Toolbox on the left, then clear the "Use tool groups" option there. That's what you're looking for I think. Other 3 preferences I change to make GIMP nicer to work with (for me...

Re: enabling snap for just one app or package
I am looking for Notion. And I couldn't find it. But it is available as a snap package. And, can you explain, if you don't mind, that why is installing snaps is like opening a can of worms? I know it is slow, other than that? The Notion snap seems not official anyway. Maybe you can give https://not...

Re: enabling snap for just one app or package
So, the base repository in Linux mint is Jammy (ubuntu 22.x) right, so if something is installed from that repository using apt, will it trigger snap and then the snap package is installed instead? Since the base repo is Jammy, it's not possible to always stop installation or updating packages from...

Re: Location Nemo settings? Pinned, Favorites & Bookmarks?
Favorite and pinned are file metadata. That's stored in the directory ~/.local/share/gvfs-metadata. It may also be stored in the filesystem itself, I'm not sure. Perhaps adding that directory to your home directory backup set is enough to make restoring the backup also add back the metadata. You can...

Katiecole was a spambot. The account has been banned. That post was split from the topic and archived, as proof.

Not sure if the situation is the same. I recently sponsored through this page on behalf of my company: https://linuxmint.com/sponsors_info.php But haven't got any link like what you have mentioned (and company name hasn't shown up on the sponsorship page either) If that was in the past few days all...

Re: enabling snap for just one app or package
So, even if I enable snapd on linux mint, and run apt install firefox, it does not install firefox from snap and also does not replace firefox if it is already installed, right? Yes for apt install firefox ... with a but. apt install -t jammy firefox , apt install firefox/jammy or apt install firef...

Re: enabling snap for just one app or package
And can anyone tell me, if I enable Snap, will it replace all the apt packages on the system instantly or when I run an "sudo apt update" command? How does the replacement work? Ubuntu has "fake" packages in their repository which if you install them actually install snapd and t...

Re: enabling snap for just one app or package
On Ubuntu if you install Firefox, Chromium or Thunderbird (from Ubuntu 24.04) through apt it instead installs snapd and then installs the app you wanted from the proprietary Snap Store. Even if you enable snap I think this doesn't happen on Linux Mint because the apt priority of our Firefox and Chro...

We did eMail the contact we had on file November 21st 2023 at 3:03pm ET but never got a response. The online form for Sponsors allowed us to update some aspects of sponsorship but not all resulting in the branding mismatch. Hi, apologies you didn't get a reply on the email before today. Re: RAM quantity discrepancy. 16GB or 16.6GB or 16.18GB
So yes, physical installed memory is 16 GiB. But as free -m shows only 15798 MiB (15.43 GiB) is available to the OS. Translate from MiB to GB makes it 16.5654 GB so that's most likely the same thing System Monitor is showing — how much memory total is available to the OS.

Re: RAM quantity discrepancy. 16GB or 16.6GB or 16.18GB
With different levels of verbosity, the commands: sudo lshw -C memory sudo dmidecode -t memory should show the same the same installed RAM size as the BIOS shows. RAM sizes are a multiple of 1024, not a multiple of 1000. So 16 GiB of RAM is not 16000000000 bytes but 17179869184 bytes, or about 17.18...

Users can install KDE but I get your point; there no longer is a KDE edition while there was when that was written. I've updated it. Thanks!

Re: Is there an Edge ISO for Linux Mint Xfce, or a way to update the ISO to kernel 6.5?
The Edge ISO is Cinnamon only. From Linux Mint 22, due mid this year, there will no longer be a Edge ISO as with each new Linux Mint release each edition will get a new kernel. That doesn't help you now of course, but FYI. What you could do now is install from the Edge ISO and then install the packa...
