Re: Software that you would like to have for Linux

I don't follow the "I want Android apps on Linux". Most apps on Android show ads in the program — while you're using it. It's bad enough I have to have such tripe on my phone but why would I want to have adware & spyware laden programs on my computer. I just want to run Linux on my phone :)

Re: Software that you would like to have for Linux

- TotalCommander, once more May I suggest Double Commander https://doublecmd.sourceforge.io/. It's a cross-platform alternative to TotalCommander, touted by others as being better. It even supports TotalCommander plugins. You can install it through the developer's build service here https://softwar...

Re: Software that you would like to have for Linux

I installed that both on Mint19 and on my android cellphone but it seems not work. (my laptop and phone connected to same WiFi and they can not find each other while sending a file) Dangit. It looks (from the FAQ) that the Android version needs you to have NitroShare one version newer than is in Li...

Re: time to delete/edit most stikies I think

I go through them periodically or when I stumble across one. The "before 2018" rule doesn't work as many topics from before 2018 look to be still relevant today.

I've gone through the list now and unstickied a few handfuls.

Re: Create a fortran source file and compile/run it

You can put your fortran source file in any directory you want. When opening a terminal you must be in that directory to run the compile command. So for example if you put x1.f in your Desktop directory, you can open your file manager, then either right-click the Desktop directory you see in your ho...

If,

TurboTax would support Linux
This may not be up to your needs but to let others know it's available http://opentaxsolver.sourceforge.net/index.html.

As for TurboTax, have you let them know you desire a Linux desktop version?

Re: Software Manager and Update Manager issues

Sounds like you made a mistake with adding some repository to your system. Share the output of this command run from the terminal (you can select and copy text through its Edit menu): inxi -Sr If you can spot the error in there yourself you can either edit the /etc/apt/sources.list.d/additional-repo...

Re: [MATE][SOLVED] How to disable middle mouse button simulation?

Yes, if it is not already true. Check first what its current value is with:
gsettings get org.mate.peripherals-mouse middle-button-enabled

If it's already true something else is the matter.

Re: Chrome under Linux Mint 17.2

Indeed. Copy the file ~/.config/google-chrome/Default as this has your bookmarks. I think the other file to copy is ~/.config/google-chrome/Last\ Tabs (if copying through terminal, escape the space in the filename with a backslash as shown) and that has the last open tabs. Or possibly the ~/.config/...

Re: Question regarding flow of video drivers.

Linux Mint 19 uses the Linux kernel and graphics stack from Ubuntu 18.04. So yeah, likely issues you're having would carry over to other Ubuntu 18.04 derivatives.

Re: About linux mint debían edition

On LMDE 2 you can't run the latest Cinnamon version as its library versions are too old. But LMDE 3 is being worked on right now and it will have the same (latest) Cinnamon version as Linux Mint 19. A public beta can likely be expected in next few weeks. Keep an eye on https://blog.linuxmint.com/ wh...

Re: Chrome under Linux Mint 17.2

To confirm configuration issue on the system that has the problem, create a new user account there (through Users & Groups in menu), log in to the new user and then try starting Google Chrome from there. Does that work?

Sorry, to clarify, I mean as in it's unlikely to be supported in Software Manager on LMDE 3. What you can do on command line to possibly installs snaps that way is something other.

Re: Suggestion: For Mint 20 to go full Debian

Disclaimer: my personal opinion. Red Hat, CentOS and Fedora are thriving despite Red Hat's IPO 19 years ago. IPOs by itself aren't a negative. Sure, there were a few bumps in the road with Linux Mint based on Ubuntu as you could read in this month's news. How should these few bumps affect what Linux...

Re: linuxmint 19 backgrounds settings do not work

It all works here from the v2 ISO. Have you applied updates in Update Manager? I can't think of a possible reason for this aside from some patch update for Cinnamon or Muffin you haven't install yet. Or possibly issue with your graphics card driver? Suggest to add the output of command inxi -Fxrz ru...

Re: Mint 19 on Coffee Lake Running Okay?

Coffee lake was released 10 months ago and Intel generally have kernel drivers in place before chips are released; fine tuning and fixing any bugs in the months after release. So you can expect it to work without issues on Linux kernel 4.15. I'd be more cautious with the motherboard components. Chec...
