Re: File saving dialogue has no path bar. (feature suggestion)

If this is a feature request for the MATE desktop, you'll have to make it to the MATE desktop developers: https://mate-desktop.org/. First search if a similar request has been made already. This forum is for getting and giving support from/to other Linux Mint users.

Re: Is my system good enough for gaming?

I don't know anything about AMD processors of that generation. I guess it depends on which A8 APU you have. Steam games include system requirements for Linux on their page, so check that and compare against your system. The types of games that probably will work are 2D and older 3D games. Newer (3D)...

Re: Mint 19 Leafpad word wrap setting not remembered

Can't reproduce. Just installed leafpad on Linux Mint 19 and toggling word wrap, closing and restart leafpad, it's still what I set it to. It stores its configuration in ~/.config/leafpad/leafpadrc. Perhaps that directory isn't writable for some reason (can happen when you run GUI programs as root w...

Re: Signals with trap

You can find explanation of signals here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Signal_(IPC)#POSIX_signals Ctrl+\ sends SIGQUIT. Would normally quit the process. Ctrl+Z sends SIGSTOP. It's a job control command. Pauses the running job and returns user to the shell. jobs list all jobs and fg can be used to r...

Re: How to uninstall Opera browser completely?

I've remembered incorrectly. Not clear to me from its manpage but after testing it indeed works as you say. In any case, Opera package is already removed and OP need not do anything further on that end.

Re: How to uninstall Opera browser completely?

Yes. apt-get and apt do the same and account for dependencies. dpkg is a low level tool and does not account for dependencies. You should generally not use dpkg (you could remove something that something else depends on, while apt-get and apt will inform you of that).

Tried Catfish - can only search the content of .txt files. Same in Mate-search-tool someone recommended.

Re: How to uninstall Opera browser completely?

There's 3 things to do: Uninstall the Opera package through Software Manager. That is all the software it has installed from Opera itself. You can also uninstall it more fully from terminal with command: apt purge opera-stable Open Software Sources from your menu. Go to the Additional repositories t...

Re: best app to search for files by content

I'm not the best to answer this as I just use grep from the terminal (or actually ripgrep, which is 20 times faster). Recoll and Catfish are the obvious ones to try if you need something with a GUI. A look on https://alternativeto.net/ comes up with two other options: DocFetcher and Searchmonkey. Th...

Re: Not UTF-8 valid

Indeed, interesting to see the output of locale and locale -a commands. Isn't gog using a shell script with embedded binary content? One very big .sh file that indeed won't open in text editor. Failing anything else you could try running the installer from the terminal and prefix the installer comma...

Please run the following command on the terminal and share its output here (you can select and copy text on the terminal through its Edit menu). This way others get a bit of info about your system and can with that hopefully help figure out the cause.

Re: Cant install "Authenticator"

The flathub.org repository seems to suffer performance issues a bit often. Suggestion is to try again at a later moment. To not have to find it in Software Manager each time you can also run this command from the terminal to try and install it: flatpak install flathub com.github.bilelmoussaoui.Authe...

Re: Repository question regarding universe

pyRenamer was available on Linux Mint 17.x and 18.x but as it's been dropped from Ubuntu 18.04's universe repository it's not available on Linux Mint 19. it might be a dead project as it's previously listed homepage is gone http://www.infinicode.org/code/pyrenamer/. Possibly you can download the pac...

We are only aware of a breach on our website in February 2016. The authoritative website https://haveibeenpwned.com/ does not show any other breaches either. Perhaps the following can explain why you're getting an alert now. We've been contacted early October by a company like LifeLock, monitoring s...

Re: install.sh only for ubuntu, debian and fedora

My bad. Deleted too many lines from the script. Amended my post above. Where you deleted the lines you should also add these lines back into the script:

Code: Select all

install='sudo apt-get -y install'
remove='sudo apt-get -y remove'
pkginst='sudo dpkg -i'
update='sudo apt-get'
