Re: This newbie has overcome his fear of the terminal

I don't really think much of the mindset or mentality which promotes the idea of sticking with tradition or habit or "what you know" over thinking for oneself, and honestly I have little use for those persons who function in that way, whether in the technology world or elsewhere. There are certain ...

Re: This newbie has overcome his fear of the terminal

My first lesson with the Linux Command Line PDF was a warning NOT to use spaces in filenames. Here's at least one mention (on page 36 of OP's reference): 4.Though Linux supports long filenames which may contain embedded spaces and punctuation characters, limit the punctuation characters in the name...

Re: This newbie has overcome his fear of the terminal

While it's true that files with spaces in their names can be dealt with, I prefer to avoid spaces in files I create.

I like this oldish link on filenames: http://pclosmag.com/html/Issues/201607/page03.html

To my disappointment, I have noticed though, that the screenshots saved to the clipboard are also stored in PNG file format and there is no way to change this to jpg.
If you don't mind, post the contents of ~/.config/spectaclerc.

Re: KDE-Spectacle

What happens if you run spectacle -b -a -o ~/Pictures/$(date +%Y%m%d%H%M%S).jpg from your terminal? After you do, is there an image of your terminal in your Pictures folder?

Also, run which spectacle because which kde-spectacle comes up empty.

Everybody is constantly installing, reinstalling, formatting, etc. All you ever hear about is people distro hopping and trying out this or that. I know here come the exceptions who've never done it but its pretty common.

Re: Firefox scrolling

I'm using Firefox 63 but this problem has been around at least 2 years for me and can't find any help topics on the subject anywhere. When using the left click on my mouse in the scroll bar area located on the right, it always jumps the web page down lower than it should. Instead of simply going do...

Re: Chromium/Chrome V-69 User Tweak for Butt Ugly Update

I just checked google-chrome-unstable ( that's currently v72) and it has:
Default
Refresh
Touchable Refresh
Dynamic Refresh

But I wonder why they haven't applied the "WONTFIX" kiss of death. Perhaps it's not PC and Google is now more about PC I guess.

Re: Chromium/Chrome V-69 User Tweak for Butt Ugly Update

Enjoy it while you can, that flag stopped working in Chromium 71. Looks like it. The bug is being ignored: https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=863230 It's still stuck with M69 instead of being punted to M70. Plus, only 18 users have "starred" it, FWIW. I don't care about the shape...

Re: (SOLVED) Re: scroll bar question- addtional help please

Another route could be this: Did you test that? I would expect the themes to override this. Big oops! Please try this in $HOME/.config/gtk-3.0/gtk.css : scrollbar.vertical slider, scrollbar.vertical .slider { min-width: 33px; min-height: 42px; margin: 0px -1px 0px -1px; } It works with all the gtk3...

Re: scroll bar question- addtional help please

Another route could be this:

Create a text file called gtk.css in ~/.config/gtk-3.0.

Put the following code in there and save the file.
Code:

Code: Select all

*{
-GtkRange-slider-width: 12;
}
Instead of 12 use a higher or lower value as suitable.

The fewer add-ons in your web browser, the better. Only install those that are absolutely essential for you.

Bare minimum is best. I recommend uBlock.
I hope you mean uBlock Origin :)
