Very nice and cute to boot. Definitely a Linux Mint screen and with a choice of resolutions. Thank you for sharing, Karl.

Re: Calibre's dropdown menu has gray text on a gray background. I can't see the text. [solved]

Not sure why you brought up icon themes, as that's not what the problem is. See entries 2 - 5 above relating to themes. Your installation of Calibre looks different to mine - different (icon) theme. Or are we talking about different things here such as general themes and icon themes. Should that be...

I was pleased to read that you fixed it but just for the record, yes you can change the icon themes - there are 17 of them provided as well as a revert button.

I do not have an entry for calibre in /etc/profile.d

Re: Calibre's dropdown menu has gray text on a gray background. I can't see the text.

I assume that you used the "binary install" method. My installation of Calibre looks different to what your link shows but that may just be due to the chosen theme. Have a look in Calibre Preferences, Look & feel (Ctrl + p) where you can alter the display according to your wishes. Using Linux Mint 1...

Re: How to get releveant stats for my monitor

You did not mention which monitor you have nor if you are using the nvidia driver. All the monitors I have seen have display controls, including brightness adjustment as does the NVIDIA X Server Setting if you are using the nvidia driver. The information given under System Settings, Hardware, Displa...

Re: Epson Stylus Photo PX700W scanner not detected over Wifi

If "net" was already mentioned then there was no need to add it again. You add it if it is not present on your system. You will notice, when looking at the dll.conf file, that the listed files are in alphabetical order. Any additions are made adhering to this order so that if it should ever occur th...

Re: Epson Stylus Photo PX700W scanner not detected over Wifi

There are 2 files to be edited. I gather that you have successfully edited "/etc/sane.d/dll.conf" (please check that your changes have been saved). The other file that has to be edited is "/etc/sane.d/epkowa.conf" as described here viewtopic.php?f=42&t=225289 What is it that you find ambiguous and c...

One solution is to copy the the three files in /usr/lib/sane to /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sane.
Would sudo ln -sfr /usr/lib/sane/libsane-epkowa* /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sane be sufficient?

Re: seeking HOWTO -- Win10 in VM on Mint 19.2

RIH was quicker than I to reply but my contribution may still be relevant. Trying to follow more than one set of instructions will result in confusion. The first HowTo is sufficiently detailed but leaves out the installation of the Guest Additions as well as the Extension Pack. Both will enable furt...

Re: Epson Stylus Photo PX700W scanner not detected over Wifi

Using your MFD via a wireless connection entails setting up the network connection between your MFD and your router as well as editing 2 configuration files in Linux Mint. Ensure that the firewall is OFF. On your PX700W configuration screen go to Network Settings, Wireless LAN Setup. Click on Setup ...

Re: Cannot set clock

On the Date & Time setting, click on "unlock" and give your password when prompted. You can now change the Network Time from ON to OFF and all other buttons will become active. When done, turn Network Time to ON and press the Lock bar. Network Time co-ordinates your computer system to match the time...

Re: Strange behavior in Guake

I have not remapped any keyboard shortcuts in Guake. I prefer to use a mouse rather than having to remember keyboard combinations. Perhaps the combination you assigned is already in use by another program. Since your installed version of Guake is not responding to the keyboard combinations even when...

You can adjust the settings for your graphics tablet in System Settings (in your main menu), Hardware, Graphics tablet - just like in Ubuntu Bionic Beaver.

No QEMU in use here. I have used VirtualBox since Innotek created it.

Running Bionic Beaver and Win 7 (W7 without internet access). Win 7 needed solely for running medical software.

Anyway, wait and see if others have similar problems to those experienced by you.

Re: Gnome (Epiphany) Web Browser

It is as secure as any browser can be. The description in the Software Manager states that Epiphany is "standards compliant". Any lapses in security would most likely be introduced by the user. There are many browsers available and the reason I use two browsers (Waterfox and Opera) is that Waterfox ...

Re: (VB 6.0.10) Snapshot request segfaults

VirtualBox 6.0.10 (virtualbox-6.0_6.0.10-132072~Ubuntu~bionic_amd64.deb) works fine here as does the snapshot function including restart.

Did you upgrade the corresponding Extension Pack?

Re: Strange behavior in Guake

The keyboard shortcut for closing tabs in Guake is Shift+Ctrl+W.
It works fine on my installation.

I did patch a malfunction in Guake relating to tab freezes, the patch is mentioned here:

There is some conflicting information provided here. The first post states that the menu entries are still active whereas a further post declares them as inactive. If I am reading this correctly, LibreOffice has already been removed. Using the Synaptic Package Manager would mean that each component ...

Re: Can't boot from USB.

The boot over-ride facility in the BIOS is (on American Megatrends) on the very last screen, the "Exit & Save" screen.

With your USB stick inserted, reboot, press Delete to enter the BIOS, go to Exit & Save. You will see the USB stick identified, click on it and Exit to resume boot.
