Re: wifi icon gone from task bar

I assume that you mean the Network Manager icon. It is in System Settings, Applets, waiting for you to restore it to the panel (Linux Mint does not have a task bar).

Re: Where is my desktop .jpg?

Open System Settings -> Backgrounds, it will be in there somewhere, try Pictures if it is listed.

If you can remember what you called your creation then you can find it with the locate command: locate xxx.jpg.

If you used GIMP to create your picture then "recently used" in GIMP will find it.

Re: LM 19.1 Cinnamon - Dead black icon in Panel

There are several things I would try. 1. Press Ctrl+Alt+Esc to reset Cinnamon. 2. Look in System Settings, Applets to check for updates for installed applets as well as any that are flagged as possibly being problematic (temporarily disable these). 3. Right click on the panel, go to Troubleshoot, cl...

Re: Waterfox keeps crashing on 19.1

Unless your upgrade from 18.1 to 19.1 was a clean install, it seems likely that a file corruption has occurred. Rather than trying to find the fault it would be quicker to proceed as follows. The Waterfox installation consists of 2 files "waterfox" and ".waterfox". The main waterfox will be wherever...

Re: How to transfer files between Linux and Mp3 Player

What kind of MP3 player did you have in mind? I use a Sony Walkman that after being plugged in is instantly identified on my Desktop as "Walkman" and seen as Storage Media. Music files are easily transferred like in any other storage medium. You can use "cut and paste" for example or "send to". The ...

Re: Google Earth & Nvidia video problems

Although the nouveau driver is very good, it has some limitations in that it is unable to adequately render some graphics intensive programs. I have a puzzle game called Cogs which will not even open with nouveau but it opens and runs perfectly using the proprietary nvidia driver. Open the Driver Ma...

Re: Google Earth & Nvidia video problems

Why don't you install an nvidia driver from the Driver Manager?

I am using GE version 7.3.2 without any problems with a nvidia 390 driver.
Also using Linux Mint Cinnamon 19.1.

Re: Linux Mint Cinnamon 19.1 64-bit install - unable to restart

The information you provided shows that you are running MATE and not Cinnamon. It also shows that your Dell Vostro is 12 years old and the battery is only 31% charged. Hopefully it will charge further but if it does not, a battery replacement is indicated. Cinnamon requires computing resources that ...

The Major Geeks site was intended merely as a signpost, perhaps it was a bad choice on my part. The URLs cited by MrEen are clear and to the point and led you to success. I do not have Rainlendar installed and am not able to advise you regarding the "import file" other than to suggest that you might...

Hello Alvin, You may have missed the line from the URL I cited, that says: "The application (Rainlendar) is platform independent so you can run it both on Windows and on Linux." I have used it myself in Linux Mint 19.1 and I know that other Forum members have also used it in Linux. Surely, before to...

Re: KOrganizer

Most programs you download that start with K are KDE programs used primarily in a KDE environment. These will work in other desktop systems as long as all the support libraries are also installed and these can be quite extensive. If you are familiar with Rainlendar, why not continue to use that? Rai...

If you just need a quick way to empty out various caches then you can use this derivative of Ubuntu Tweak. https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2016/12/free-space-ubuntu-cleaner-janitor-app For old kernel removal, the facility provided by Linux Mint in the Update Manager is to be preferred. It works fine in ...

Re: Unable to install mint

There is no need to go into the BIOS to select the boot order.

On Asus laptops you go into the BIOS by tapping "delete" during initial boot.

With the USB plugged in or DVD in the optical drive tap "Esc" during initial boot and a blue menu should pop up to let you select which medium to boot from.
