Re: Video Downloading

You can use youtube-dl for that, dailymotion is one of the supported sites. Install it from your Software Manager.

Or ClipGrab from https://clipgrab.org/

The site you quoted, https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2o5y7d appears to be invalid - it times out.

Re: Mounting an ISO to a DVD

For DVDs, I would recommend Xfburn, a straightforward program that works well in Cinnamon. You can install it from the Software Manager or use sudo apt install xfburn Personally I prefer to use a USB stick for any ISO - it is much faster and use the USB Image Writer from the main menu. Brasero is in...

Re: LM19.1 takes up whole hard disk

Installing Linux Mint you get to decide what you want to do and where you want it. If you abdicate control, the installer will follow the easiest option and use whatever space is available (as you have discovered). In multi-boot systems you have to specify where the boot loader should be placed. Thi...

Re: How do I get a Epson Perfection 3170 Photo working on Mint 18.3/19

To get USB connectivity in VirtualBox you have to install the Extension Pack from the VirtualBox web site. After you have done that any plugged in USB devices will be automatically identified by VirtualBox in Devices, USB.

Thank you for your explanation and also for marking this thread as "Solved" which will guide others who may experience the same situation.

Just for your information, guest sessions can be enabled or disabled easily in the Login Screen in Linux Mint 19.1. Now that is progress!

Re: dpkg problem?

Are you certain that you are running a 64 bit system? The error message in your image says otherwise. Type arch in a terminal and if it says x86_64 then it is indeed a 64 bit system. Please note the spelling of rainlendar (not rainlender). Why not just double click on the downloaded file to install ...

Re: Linux Mint 18 crashes after editing of lightdm.conf

the system forbade me from saving the edited file Was there a message? I seem to have made this more complicated than it needed to be. It is not necessary to stop the display manager for this. The lightdm.conf file can be edited while still in graphics mode. Open a terminal and copy and paste this ...

Re: Windows(Super) + Tilde(`) shortcut problem

The "Windows" key opens the main menu. In Guake preferences you can set various keys. The F12 key opens Guake - together with the Fn key, otherwise it kills your display. I use Guake from an icon on the panel. If you select Guake as your preferred terminal application in System Settings, Preferred A...

After using sudo service lightdm stop the screen goes black. Invoke a tty by pressing Alt + Ctrl + F1 (Function key). Some keyboards have an Fn key which must also be pressed.

Re: Linux Mint 18 crashes after editing of lightdm.conf

First you have to stop the display manager (hence the advice by catweazel to use a live disk). Open a terminal in your existing operating system and type sudo service lightdm stop This will disable lightdm and you will have a black screen with a prompt. Now type sudo nano /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf g...

And if you're talking about the one that brings up the save dialog when you press PrntScrn, I know about it but it can't autosave in a file. No, that was not the one I meant. PrintScreen saves to ~/Pictures by default but you can specify another location if you want https://forums.linuxmint.com/vie...

An Epson driver will be needed for scanning.
Only if you want to use the Epson scanning program (ImageScan! for Linux). Not needed if Simple Scan meets your needs.

Flameshot is available for installation in your Software Manager in the main menu. There is no need to go to the Debian repository.

You already have another Screenshot program installed by default.

It seems that there are some packages that are stuck in the apt cache.

Open a terminal window and use

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get clean
to sort that out. See if the errors have disappeared when you reboot.

Re: sudo unable to resolve host

It seems that your system has trouble identifying its hostname "rado-mint18". Have a look in /etc/hostname to see what is written there. You can re-affirm or change that with sudo hostnamectl set-hostname <insert new name> Check that the new name appears in /etc/hostname and if it does not (after a ...
