Re: Google Earth

Although I have never been there, the School of Arts Hotel still stands: https://publocation.com.au/pubs/qld/roma/school-of-arts-hotel Roma, Queensland is about 880 km north from where I live (that is 545 miles in Imperial), a ten hour drive on country roads. Looks like a cool oasis to me. You are a...

Re: Google Earth

I wish you a very happy day, cardineau, on your birthday and every day thereafter :D The failure of the zoom feature in Google Earth may well be related to your graphics chip that simply cannot process the details of a city such as New Orleans. It zooms just fine on my equipment using Google Earth P...

Knoppix was created by Klaus Knopper and the voice is that of his wife Adriane.

Several Knoppix discs are a permanent feature in my toolkit.

Re: Weird problem, can't access yahoo mail & other websites since two weeks

The image shown in https://ibb.co/dLKCKp does not show the green padlock to indicate a secure connection with Yahoo, even though it is specified as "https". If you are trying to access the Yahoo site via a bookmark on your Bookmarks Toolbar without success, one can assume that this shortcut has beco...

Re: WiFi unavailable WG111v2 & RT3290

The ancient Netgear WG111v2 can be made to work as originally suggested by JeremyB in 2016 (https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=236099) wget https://daemonizer.de/prism54/prism54-fw/fw-usb/2.13.25.0.lm87.arm --no-check-certificate followed by sudo mv 2.13.25.0.lm87.arm /lib/firmware/isl3887...

Re: How to play .mkv file?

@ MrEen and @ rene - Relax, this website seems to have developed a few glitches such as difficulties with logging in, not remembering my password, problems with editing and posting duplicates, etc. My edit was twofold: one was to correct a typo and the second to delete a duplicate I had not requested.

Re: Epson printer prints blank pages only on mint

You could try and set up the printer as a "new" printer. Here at home, I have two entries for my Epson Artisan - USB connected and WiFi connected. In an earlier post I recommended to connect the printer via USB cable first and then configure connecting via WiFi. With the correct driver (32 bit or 64...

Re: How to play .mkv file?

Downloaded some mkv sample videos from here: https://www.sample-videos.com/ They all played fine in both Xplayer and VLC (v. 3.0.3). I did not need the configurations mentioned in the following URL but there may be some value here: https://videoconverter.wondershare.com/convert-mkv/play-mkv-in-vlc.h...

Re: Epson XP-640 printer printing blank pages only on mint

Instead of selecting the "number of pins" why don't you select XP-640.

Independently from the computer, your printer should be able to perform a self-test - look under Maintenance.

Re: (Resolved) Router wakes Computer with kernel 4.15.0-30

Posted in case anyone else has experienced this problem. The automatic wake-on-lan problem continued with kernel 4.15.0-33. The situation was resolved by fitting a Realtek ethernet adapter card (from my spare parts box), thereby bypassing the motherboard Atheros chip (motherboard Gigabyte Z77-D3H). ...

Re: XPlayer doesn't install plugin required for MIDI files

You also need fluid-soundfont-gm

viewtopic.php?t=212605

Alternatively, you can install a VLC plugin called vlc-plugin-fluidsynth to play midi files in VLC.

Re: Slow boot due to configure-printer (Epson SX125)

You could try downloading and installing the drivers for the SX125 from the Epson Download Centre. Type SX125 as the product name into the vacant field and click on the magnifier.

Re: Linux Mint 19 Cersion 2 - nemo issues

I don't know that it is a bug although it can be a nuisance. You can specify how you wish to view each window you open in Nemo and you will have to specify that individually. I use an enlarged icon view and use Compact Layout in View, Arrange Items. That has to be set for every sub-category. Some us...

In Cinnamon, you can switch between ethernet (if connected via a cable) and wifi with a left click on the Nerwork Manager icon on the panel. The choices present in the popup menu.
Tried with my laptop connected via ethernet cable.

Re: Dropbox tray icon opens with 'Files' instead of 'Nemo'.

In Linux Mint 19 Cinnamon, Files is Nemo, the File Manager. The image you posted of Files, is the Ubuntu Nautilus File Manager used by early versions of Linux Mint. You stated that you upgraded from Linux Mint 18.3 to 19. Did you also upgrade from an earlier version to 18.3 and have thereby retained...

It's sad that none of the manufacturers are taking Linux serious enough to provide a package for Linux ... Where did you get that idea from? In the early days of Linux only a few manufacturers provided drivers for their printers and scanners. That has changed. Hewlett-Packard provide drivers which ...
