Re: How to uninstall guest editions

No, that is the VirtualBox menu showing how it is configured. When you run the operating system in full-screen mode (right Ctrl+F), the relevant menu is hidden at the bottom of the screen but will reveal on mouse-over. Its contents are "File, Machine, View, Input, Devices, Help, NameofOS _ [] X" ( _...

Re: [solved] Image viewer for TIF files?

heebo, I did not mention which version I use of the programs listed. That may influence the outcome in some but not all.
Gimp = 2.10, LO = 6.3.3.2. All the others are standard fare in Linux Mint 19.3 Cinnamon x64 and should work for you as they did for me.

Re: How to uninstall guest editions

I am not sure how to run Guest Additions, though. To put it in another way: Open the guest. To install guest additions, move your cursor to the bottom of the screen to reveal the VirtualBox menu, then click on Devices and select Optical Drives - place a tick in the box next to your optical drive. T...

I can display tif files using the following: 1. Image Viewer 2. Pix 3. Document Viewer 4. Drawing 5. LibreOffice Draw 6. LibreOffice Impress 7. GIMP All the above are in your main menu. Feh is a command line program but it is quite capable of displaying tif files - for proper use see "man feh". VLC ...

Re: sound event lags since going to 19.3

@MrEen

Reverting to kernel 4.15.0-72 removed the delay in system sounds, switching to kernel 5.3.0-24 reactivated the delay. The system command you gave restored instant response. Thank you.

Re: Start menu open on hover

Although I am not familiar with Xfce, I had hoped that the function you wanted was available in all manifestations of Linux Mint. The advice I gave above is certainly accurate for the Cinnamon desktop. After downloading both MATE and Xfce in 19.2 versions, I have not been able to find this facility ...

Re: Type International characters on laptop?

According to your description, MacOS uses 4 keystrokes to accomplish what Linux Mint will do in 3. Set your Compose Key (I use the Caps Lock key). All the accents that you might want to use are on your keyboard. The sequence is tap 1. Compose key, 2. accent, 3. letter Here is a small sample of accen...

Re: How to make calendar auto-start?

The correct name of the program you want to auto-start is gnome-calendar.

When put into Startup Applications it works as expected.

Any command to trigger an application can be identified by looking in your Menu Editor.

Re: Can someone please guide me in installing Windows version of Calibre on my Linux Mint?

Calibre is an open source project which works in the same way on Linux, Mac and Windows. There are no operating-system-dependent functions. You can read its history here: https://calibre-ebook.com/about#history My Kobo reader connects to my computer via USB and is recognised by Calibre instantly. Ca...

Re: Opera Browser Slow To Open in Linux Mint 18.3

Both Software Manager and Synaptic Package Manager show what applications are available to you for installation but they will also show what applications you have installed on your system from external sources. Hence, "Opera-stable" that you have installed from the Opera website will show as install...

Re: Opera Browser Slow To Open in Linux Mint 18.3

To see which version of the Opera browser you have, click on the "O" in the top left corner, scroll down to "Help" and click on "About Opera".

The time lag may be caused by having more than one version installed.

You can also try "Mailnag" which is in the Software Manager. It shows notifications in the panel and makes a ping sound when new mail arrives.

Re: Email client with notifications

Mail-notification written in 2008/9 has served me well to inform me of new mail arriving. https://www.nongnu.org/mailnotify/ It will play a user-chosen sound file when new mail has arrived as well as display an icon on the panel which will remain visible until deactivated by the user. Re: Kindle reading

The question Alvin asked was answered by the first responder, gittiest personITW who suggested Calibre. I would second that; Calibre can not only change ebook formats but also provides an ebook reader. The current version of Calibre (directly from Calibre) is version 4.1. The comments made later poi...

Go to System Settings, Power Management and set the "Suspend when inactive for" to "Never". After that try "Suspend" again.

Alternatively, you could turn your monitor off when not required.
