Re: How do i set a keyboard combo to write a special character?

I have no idea how to do this on a German keyboard but can advise on how to create "ñ" on a 105 keyboard. First you have to establish a key to use as a Compose Key. Open System Settings -> Hardware -> Layouts -> Options -> Position of Compose Key. Select a key to use as a Compose Key - I use the Cap...

Re: How to make the print screen key open Screenshot

Regardless of which screenshot program you use, you will still have to specify the area to be copied since that is a matter of personal choice. The following URL shows how to set a keyboard combination using the "Print Screen" key to open any screenshot application whether it is gnome-screenshot or ...

In your main menu open System Settings -> Hardware -> Keyboard -> Shortcuts and set whatever function you need to a keyboard key (or a combination).

Re: how do i change the default screenshot app?

Open your Software Manager, search for Shutter and click on Install.

If you do not want to retain the default Gnome-screenshot, use your Software Manager's Remove button.

There are several screenshot programs listed in the Software Manager.

Re: What printer should I get?

Manufacturers of computer hardware are in the business of selling their products and it matters not which computer operating system is in use. HP, Canon, Epson, Brother all work well with a Linux system. The HP driver (hplip) is already installed in Linux Mint and any HP product should therefore be ...

Re: What use is learning the command line for someone new to Linux?

The simplest answer to that question is: Because it is there. A lesson learned early was never to use a command if you do not know what that command does. Not all commands are benign and one with a typo could have disastrous consequences. Some years ago I had the privilege of being a tester for an o...

The only solution that I know is to either grin and bear it or revert to the NouVeau (open source NVidia driver) driver.

Re: Hello, new here.

We might be down under but, like you folks in the northern hemisphere, we are the right way up.

It is worthwhile to become familiar with the command line because it is the basis of all that happens in any computer operating system; not compulsory, of course, but worth knowing at least the rudiments.

Re: Libreoffice local file links in Writer getting corrupted

You are using a wrong path statement - not "file:///home/jon/textfile.txt" but "/home/jon/textfile.txt". The syntax for html files generally is "https://www.blahblah.com" Using the correct path statements in LibreOffice Writer works just fine. Ctrl+k -> click on the file symbol (top right) to locate...

Re: Hello, new here.

Welcome to the Linux Mint community.

I think it a pity that you dismiss the command line as being too hard to understand. Whatever happens on any computer is governed by a command line coated with a veneer called a GUI (graphical user Interface). All computer operating systems are subject to it.

Re: logon screen

I installed LM 19.1 with auto logon and it worked perfect - then tried to install XDM download manager Xdm is not a download manager, it is a display manager. You already have a display manager (lightdm). You might be able to extricate yourself from this by going back to the Software Manager and pr...

Re: Manufacturer supported scanner?????

That is a question that you should put to the manufacturers. As far as I know, all manufacturers expect their products to work with all major operating systems and they provide drivers to ensure that happens. When you consider the number of hardware configurations that exist in computer ownership th...

Re: Epson wf-2650 all in one will print but not scan

I tried the first method that was posted but got to something that I didn't understand. I got worried I would screw something up so I exited out of it. Better safe than sorry :( but if you get stuck, you can always ask for help. If you connect your WF-2650 to your computer with a USB cable then you...

Re: Epson wf-2650 all in one will print but not scan

If you were to connect with a USB cable, both printing and scanning should work immediately. To connect wirelessly, editing some configuration files is necessary. Assuming that you successfully downloaded and installed the iscan-bundle from the Epson Download Centre, the next step would entail estab...

Re: Epson l210 not detecting in sane

The response from "sane-find-scanner" is standard even on my own system using an Epson unit. You do not mention if your connection is via USB or Wi-Fi. If it is via USB cable then Simple Scan (it is in your main menu) should work immediately without installing additional drivers. The Epson download ...

The file "example-redshift.conf" in /usr/share/doc/redshift is only an example file that you can use as a template to write your own "redshift.conf" file. Open a text editor such as xed and copy and paste either the text provided by Summerof69 or by Pjotr . Save the file as redshift.conf into .confi...
