Re: LMDE seems to run much hotter than Lubuntu

Thank you NightFox. That explanation seems convincing and is good news. So I can go back to LMDE. I'm now in Lubuntu and for anyone wondering: no, buntus (Lubuntu and Kubuntu) doesn't have the microcode package mentioned elsewhere in this place. By the way, this will be selfish mumbling but, a LMDE ...

Re: LMDE seems to run much hotter than Lubuntu

Damn! I can't have such a beauty in my SilverStone Grandia GD05; not enough space, though you give me some ideas! Yet again I'll end up with a much bigger case.

Edit: It's not a passive cooler, has got a fan. Is it silent in spite of that?

Re: LMDE seems to run much hotter than Lubuntu

Thank you. It's 35-37℃ in LMDE, but trying to lightening I've broken it and am now on Kubuntu giving a last chance to KDE! Surprisingly it's under 30℃ too. These buntus must be doing something right. My obsession with cool running is that fan noise annoys me much and I want silent operation which is...

LMDE seems to run much hotter than Lubuntu

I've installed LMDE XFCE and removed almost all XFCE and Gnome packages and installed LXDE. Yet lm_sensors reading is 10 (C) degrees higher than Lubuntu. What can I do?

Re: Embedded cover arts of MKV file in Xfce or LXDE

If you install from the daily ppa (haven't tried the stable), VLC loads the embedded MKV cover arts in its library view. Just double click on the movie. Video starts to play and when you look back you see that it's thumbnailed.

[SOLVED] Embedded cover arts of MKV file in Xfce or LXDE

Though I respect and like Linux Mint/Cinnamon, I want to be free from both Ubuntu and Gnome. Besides, I really don't need them if not for that critical feature of Gnome: the ability to have the embedded DVD/BD cover arts of MKV files (see the attached screenshot). Without such a feature a (MKV) vide...

Re: Another DE option for Mint 12 - Cinnamon

This has finally made me decide to settle with Mint and donate (a little). I've removed MGSE some time ago and am instead using only the extensions from extensions.gnome.org, because I need (Flippery) panel favourites, (dislike and don't need two panels in my 27" screen) and the Shell's crashed with...

Please correct and guide me if possible

Apple tries to change my computer with my 27' display into an iPad. Well, this is a good last excuse to leave that company finally and buy a cheaper or better machine and install Linux Mint on it. I installed Mint in an old Mac Mini and I liked it, but the distro it's based on and the DE it uses see...

Re: Flash, AFP shares, XBMC...

All right I'm able to access shares through sabma:

"Connect to a server". In the "Service type" pull down select "Windows share". Enter the server ip address in the "Server:" box and the share name in the "Share:" box.

Re: Flash, AFP shares, XBMC...

I enabled NFS on WD network drive and found a tutorial here: http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/ubuntu-linux-nfs-client-configuration-to-mount-nfs-share.html But Terminal produced this: tvin@tvin-Macmini ~ $ showmount -e 192.168.2.149 Export list for 192.168.2.149: /DataVolume/tvin * /DataVolume/Public *...

Re: Flash, AFP shares, XBMC...

Many thanks for fast replies and "welcome". XBMC installed easily and successfully, but I couldn't install afpfs-ng mentioned in that thread, Vincent. No such thing in Software or Package manager.

Flash, AFP shares, XBMC...

Hello... I've installed a Linux distribution (Mint Main) for the first time a couple of days ago on my Mac Mini (Intel 1.8 GHz) and it seems better, more logical than Mac OS X, but: 1. My nephew uses a lot this web site: http://www.songsterr.com/. When he clicks on one of the songs there, the guitar...
