Test on Asus Router N55U
I have an unused router ASUS N55U and I would like to sell it. I don't want it to be broken, what tests can I run to figure it out? Please note that I don't have internet on the phone line and I have an old 32 bit laptop with dual boot linux mint 19.3 and windows XP. For now I have turned on the rou...

Xplayer doesn't play
Xplayer version 2.2.3 Mint 19.3 xplayer comes up to play a video but the output is a black screen, play time stays at zero, video duration is shown correctly. After some seconds the application crashes. It seems to happen always. When xplayer is called by console some messages come up: xplayer:4727)...

Re: Pendrives overmounting
Today the problem is solved and it's hard to establish a reason. The relevant event was an update applied on the old lubuntu 16.04 distro I have on sda2 (/) and sda6 (/home) partitions. Before there was a weird misalignment between grub choices at boot and effective O.S. installed on sda5: I upgrade...

Re: Lightweight distros for old computers
Maya has been a big distro for my old Latitude D600 and I appreciated it so much.
I did the transition to Lubuntu 14.04 LTS ast month because I had more problems on my laptop with LM 18.1.
In every case Lubuntu 14.04 is not so responsive like Maya.

Re: Firefox v46: scrollbar problems
For the scrollbar, this works for me in Cinnamon: Add in file ~/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini (create if it does not exist): [Settings] gtk-primary-button-warps-slider=false As for MATE, I am not sure. Does it still use the gtk-2 settings infrastructure? In this case, the file would most probably be...

Re: Standard Video Player failure
Thanks a lot Rob! I followed the guide and it works. Now disk is calm. Compositing unchecked and Compiz uninstalled without any problem or visible issues. Never mind the "Direct Rendering: Yes" bit ... I wasn't able to find this option. May anyone show where is it? The player is Xplayer 1....

Rob, I just followed your procedure but nothing changed: VLC OK, Standard Player KO. Any ideas? I'm glad to use Synaptic. ... So that's not a hard install. I use Synaptic Package Manager. Standard Video Player failure
Rob, I tried to re-install Serena 18.1 and VLC and it worked! :D , now I can see video in a fluid way. Probably something went wrong in previous installation i did. Standard Video Player failure
Hi, I installed successfully Serena 18.1 on my old Latitude D600 but there is a serious issue: gnome video player (and VLC too) reproduces videos in a not fluid way. if I could downgrade gnome player package to 3.1.0 version, the same used in Maya, I probably solve this problem, isn't it? Is it a wa...

Re: Mint 18 32bit forcePAE video players open/close
Babyblues,
video player works if you boot Serena in maintenance mode.
VP is more fluid than VLC but it's fluid sufficiently only if its window is small.
Probably Mate is now too much heavy for an old D600.
Incidentally also suspend/resume function is ok.

I have a grub multiboot installation, one boot is for XP and others for lubuntu and mint 13 maya.
Is it possible to defrag the NTFS partition with Windows XP inside in live mode (defrag with XP on is disappointing)?
Thanks
