Yeah, maybe but I'm going to stick with Debian for a while anyway. I'll try Mint again tho, but not until this LMDE vs. 'regular' Mint is settled one way or the other.

Re: tried a fresh install of LMDE cinnamon, no KB, no mouse.

I solved the problem by installing Debian. It's faster, smaller and I haven't had a single issue with it. True, it's not for beginners, but once you know a few things, it seems, so far, like a hugely more stable distro. Thanks Mint! you were my first really usable distro, and just the thing for a ne...

tried a fresh install of LMDE cinnamon, no KB, no mouse.

So, my old install of LMDE seems to be getting crabby, with pakages not installing right, and a few other things seem busted, so I thought I'd try cinnamon. It seemed to install fine (very slick, very nice installation routine), but on reboot, both KB and mouse are dead dead dead. Other distros, and...

Re: Dual Screen Problem (Solved I think)

I seem to have solved my problem by turning off the right screen in the Monitors object, changing and saving some settings in NVidia Settings , turning the right screen back on, and saving the default in Monitors , if any of that makes any sense. Frankly, at this point I have done so many things th...

Re: Dual Screen Problem

I run three monitors. Getting them working was an ordeal tho. All configurators failed, and I ended up editing xorg.conf by hand to get what I want. Also, I ended up with the nouveau driver not the proprietary Nvidia one, tho I'm thinking to give the Nvidia another go. If you want to try fiddling wi...

Re: LMDE disapointment.

That's probably explain: Why LMDE can have more frequent UP; Why the main edition of Mint should be abandoned and why Mint team should only focus on LMDE completely agree with this one :D Maybe they should drop LMDE and that's what i see happen in the future at some point, people are getting less i...

Re: LMDE disapointment.

that's true. even though both version have 'mint' in their name, LMDE and mint main version is two different beast. sadly, most LMDE active user on!ly look into LMDE section. thus, if there any question about LMDE placed outside the section we'll mostly missed it. anyway, it depends on how you coul...

Re: LMDE disapointment.

What is "Imde's UP" ? UP = Update Pack which is released once a year or maybe when lucky, as i said in my previous post, twice a year to update LMDE..... Sorry, that's obvious now that I look again. I read that as a name with a capital eye not a lower case el. Here, the two look identical...

Re: LMDE disapointment.

I saw none of them asked on LMDE forum. please expect that you might need to wait longer until the problem is solved. there are only few LMDE user and only few of them still active in this forum and have all required capabilities. You know, Mint (all flavors) seems to be the #1 distro now (if you c...

Re: LMDE disapointment.

Well I dunno, I've had update trouble in the past too, and so, by about 11 months ago when I had finally got everything in LMDE working fine, I decided to just leave things alone and not risk any more updates. But I have clones of my system as backups, so I thought I should be a man and risk an upgr...

Try this instead: sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyring.ubuntu.com --recv-keys 07DC563D1F41B907 Hey thanks viking, I was getting one of those 'public key' errors, and the above fixed it. As long as I've been coming to this forum for help, you and zerozero and a few other dudes have always been there...

Re: IN=eth2 OUT =

All, This is a general sort of problem, but there doesn't seem to be a forum for this sort of non-specific issue. Anyway, for the last while when I'm at TTY/Console, I am constantly plagued with spontanious messages that always start: [1873.404401] [UFW BLOCK] IN=eth2 OUT= MAC=00:15:60:5 ..... Goog...

Re: no GUI after UP5 [SOLVED]

From fglrx package description: This driver release supports the following graphics adapter families: AMD Radeon HD 7000, AMD Radeon HD 6000, and AMD Radeon HD 5000. If you're not in these series, may I suggest this ? sudo apt-get purge fglrx* And because it won't hurt: sudo aptitude reinstall xser...

Re: no GUI after UP5

No help at all? Maybe it's time to try a more stable distro, but I'd still like to get LMDE fixed if possible. What I've found so far is that the problem is some sort of conflict between fglrx and xerver-xorg-core version 1.12.1. If I could figure out how to rollback to version 1.11.4-1 that might w...

no GUI after UP5

All, It seems I'm not the only one to have had this happen. I'm writing this from by backup partition on the same machine, so all my hardware is still good. I have an ATI Radeon card. When I 'startx' 'Xorg.0.log' tells me: "No supported AMD display adapters were found". 'aticonfig' tells m...

Re: can't record sound. [solved]

I use LMDE with LXDE replacing XFCE. You might try pavucontrol. It works as a replacement for gnome-volume control. You might also install mate-media which is a lightweight package including some controls. See http://douwil7.100webspace.net/linux/Tuning.html#17 for details. seppalta, pavucontrol se...

can't record sound.

All, This is the first time I've tried an audio capture from this distro (LMDE/XFCE). I'm trying to use 'Sound Recorder'. It seems to record, and I can save the file, but on replay, there's no sound at all. I can play existing sound files fine. "Open Volume Control" gives: "gnome-volu...

Re: LMDE update: problem with sudo.

Gentlemen: I am In the sudo group. I added this line: # Defaults secure_path="/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin" ... and now Synaptic works (it was the busted thing that brought this problem to my attention), but 'sudo echo $PATH' still shows my 'user' path. Dunn...

LMDE update: problem with sudo.

All, Got my 1177 packages upgrade more or less working. So far only one thing seems broken: it seems that when I sudo, I'm not getting access to my root path like I used to. My sudoers file is unchanged: # # This file MUST be edited with the 'visudo' command as root. # Defaults env_reset, timestamp_...
