I found an "Introduction to XAppStatusIcon" video in "The Linux Mint Blog Monthly News – August 2019." It was enough for me to formulate a working system tray icon.

Is it possible to import XAppStatusIcon into python? If so,how?

If not, is there a library that can be called from python?

I attempted to install the oem kernel with the sudo apt install linux-oem-20.04b command. The significant error seems to be:

You can't. Xed has been "improved", and that sort plugin has been made obsolete. See this thread:

The only way forward would be to request a new feature for xed.

Re-installing xed won't change anything, that's the default sort function. The problem is that it doesn't have any of the selectable options that the plugin has. So I would like to install the plugin, if anyone can tell me how. Please.

I solved this problem, in a fashion. I did a clean install of Mint Mate, and flatpak installs work. The problem occurred on a system that was also a clean install, so something I did to it must have bollixed the system.
