Re: [Solved] Can't xed admin:///etc/lsb-release

by using a 'Desktop' account to try and undertake Admin tasks you are just putting barriers in your way encouraging yourself to use and abuse su to elevate privileges, sounds contradictory. By putting more barriers between user and admin-tasks, that encourages user to abuse admin tasks? Windo...

Can't Delete New User Without Reboot

i reported this to xfce, but they say the problem is the display manager's fault (LightDM?), not Xfce's. https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14634 https://github.com/linuxmint/linuxmint/issues/68#issue-354453088 Mint 19 xfce (updated): To replicate: Create user in 'Users' app Log into new user...

echo '/usr/bin/pkexec env DISPLAY=$DISPLAY XAUTHORITY=$XAUTHORITY $@'|sudo tee /usr/local/bin/gksudo;chmod +x /usr/local/bin/gksudo asks me for local user password. When i enter local pw, it's rejected, prolly cuz local user is Desktop user type (not in sudo group): $ echo '/usr/bin/pkexec env DISP...

Re: Can't xed admin:///etc/lsb-release

Update , found the reason GUI apps should not be run as sudo or su: GUI apps may save session config info. They save it to the logged-in user's Home folder. Even if you run the app as root (su/sudo), the config is still saved to the logged-in user's Home. If you run a GUI app as root, then root wil...

Re: Can't xed admin:///etc/lsb-release

i solved it. You can't run it at su or sudo. You have to run it at logged-in user-prompt. Then you get a password popup. feels user-environment related. create a user called sudo Yep, I was trying to execute after su . That's the problem. Fails: su xed admin:///etc/lsb-release It has to be executed ...

Just via the XFCE users and groups GUI app. Create a basic new user (I'm not setting the 'Desktop user' ) and adding the netdev group only.
that may be why you're getting different results. I'm applying the Desktop user-type.

adding the netdev group only How? Command line? I'm adding via the /etc/adduser.conf. https://askubuntu.com/a/748223 Have you applied any of the other 'solutions' you have found? Maybe roll those changes back. I removed the polkit file (I assumed a reboot isn't necessary), created a new user, confi...
