Re: AMD GPU doesn't work properly with 4K monitor

@roblm I apologize for not being clear. I meant that with amdgpu 18, everything works fine except MST/Tile. With amdgpu 19, Cinnamon crashes to software mode. System: Host: red Kernel: 5.2.0-050200rc7-generic x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: gcc v: 8.3.0 Desktop: Cinnamon 4.2.3 Distro: Linux Mint 19.2 Tina...

Re: AMD GPU doesn't work properly with 4K monitor

Hardware rendering works fine. Tile support does not work because of two bugs in Cinnamon: Cinnamon-desktop issue #129: Cinnamon crashes with xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu on MST display Muffin issue #532: xrandr --setmonitor causes segfault in libmuffin.so Until the issues are fixed, I am looking for a...

Re: AMD GPU doesn't work properly with 4K monitor

@roblm although I am unsure about mesa specifically, when I upgraded amdgpu from ppa:oibaf , it did automatically upgrade a dozen or so related packages. I can't be sure at the moment because I used a backup of my system to downgrade amdgpu to version 18, since downgrading in synaptic is not possibl...

Re: AMD GPU doesn't work properly with 4K monitor

Yes I'm actually running Linux Mint 19.2. But due to bleeding edge hardware I need to run Kernel 5.2 (unofficial), and for TILE support I need to run amdgpu 19.0.1 (unofficial), and with these, Cinnamon crashes: https://github.com/linuxmint/cinnamon-desktop/issues/129 However, I can't believe this v...

Re: AMD GPU doesn't work properly with 4K monitor

Hi @Nomin, did you figure out how to solve this? I have a Dell UP2414Q too. You see two half screens because this monitor requires two streams over one cable using Multi-Stream Transport (MST). By default, Linux thinks you're sending two streams to two monitors. When I had an nVidia video card, I wo...

You're 100% correct.

I hope some of these features will get picked up and merged by someone.

Re: How to install Kernel 5.1 in a Linux Mint way

Zijn we allemaal Nederlanders? 8) It sounds like there is a story there. A story about the rift between gm10 and official Mint. A story of blood, sweat and honor. That tool does actually look nice. Thanks for the screenshots. But there is kind of an office policy. Which is understandable. I would tr...

Re: How to install Kernel 5.1 in a Linux Mint way

@gm10, as a former Mint dev, you're probably close with the Mint team. They trust you. Would your kernel tool be something that can/should be incorporated into Linux Mint? Would it be nice to merge this with the Software Updater? You can already select some """newer""" kernels in the Updater. Wouldn...

Re: How to install Kernel 5.1 in a Linux Mint way

But as to "official", those are just raw builds for testing purposes, explicitly not meant for production systems. I know, I expressed myself a bit unclear. Truth is that Tony's tools are well-known and some of them even made it into Linux Mint. I prefer not to add ppa's from people I don't know. Y...

Re: Not booting from live USB

I'm having a different mainboard but also AMD Ryzen 5. I needed to press F8 rapidly, and a wild menu appeared. In the last screen I could "override boot option" and choose the USB drive. Note 1: The USB wouldn't show up until I powered the device off, unplugged the power, inserted the USB drive, rep...

Re: How to install Kernel 5.1 in a Linux Mint way

Hi gm10 thank you for your suggestion. I ended up using ukuu and although some people recommend against it, my modern hardware is now all running fine. :D If the reason for recommending against it is security, you can set ukuu to notify you on updates daily, and do the kernel update from ukuu. It's ...

How to install Kernel 5.1 in a Linux Mint way

I have never installed something that didn't come by default. No need to mess around when things just work. However, I have a quite new Intel WiFi 6 + Bluetooth 5 card that needs Linux Kernel 5.1 to run. What would be the safest way, or even the Linux Mint way (if there is any), to get a 5.1 kernel ...

Re: Mint 19 - No information (logs) during boot

It happened again today. Forgot battery cable was unplugged. Laptop shut down. No more boot. Steps to make bootable to GUI again: Boot using Live USB Set display resolution to half (Live USB fails to detect High DPI screen) Open Terminal sudo mount /dev/nvme0n1p5 /mnt sudo mv /mnt/etc/resolv.conf{,_...

Mint 19 - No information (logs) during boot

This release, while booting very fast when it works, seems to be very sensitive to things that break the boot process. I have had to restore a timeshift recovery point a dozen or so times already. And it's important to point out that this happens for the silliest of things, like my laptop running ou...

Re: LM 19 Tara boots 30 seconds slower than LM 18

It was a misconfigured resume partition! (Important: This happened on a fresh install, so something is probably broken on the installer.) When I removed the UUID from /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume so that the file reads RESUME=none and updated initramfs by running: sudo update-initramfs -u , th...

LM 19 Tara boots 30 seconds slower than LM 18

Did a clean install on my Lenovo X1 Yoga laptop. Full disclosure: It's dual-boot with Windows 10. I notice the boot is a lot slower, so I checked syslog : kernel: [ 0.000000] microcode: microcode updated early to revision 0x84, date = 2018-01-21 kernel: [ 0.000000] Linux version 4.15.0-23-generic (b...

What do you mean "working again"?

The touchpad and the touch screen have always worked. The touch screen is still not working as expected in Firefox. It works fine in Chrome.

Firefox 57.0.1 update broke touch screen

For the first time in my live, I started to actually use Firefox. With 57.0 the speed appealed to me. I did have to run the famous env MOZ_USE_XINPUT2=1 firefox %u in order to enable touch support, but it worked fine. Now, not 5 days later, with Firefox 57.0.1, that's no longer working. I don't know...

CASE CLOSED :D
I would really really like to know what file changes when you flip `HiDPI` support from `Auto` to `Enable`, so I can automate this.

Any clue?
