Re: LM18/AMD APU graphics cards: cannot boot without adding "nomodeset xforcevesa"
I too had problems with a laptop with AMD Radeon on LinuxMint 18 64 bit. I installed kernel 4.4-0 31 and it solved the problem. Which amd card do you have? kernel 4.4-0 31 doesn't work for me. And, as i said, i use 4.4.0-36 with Linux Mint 17.3 and everything is fine. The same kernel with Linux Min...

Alt+F2 and type screen locker. "Screen locker settings" will appear in the list as you are typing. Click on it. Check the box next to "require password after" .

Re: Device Driver Manager - Help needed
Ok, i see. I don't want to install the fglrx driver, because the open source one works fine and, every time in the past i did, it caused me nothing but trouble. After all, for anything else than playing games, fglrx is by far worst. So this time i plan to keep my system "fglrx free". As i ...

Re: The unofficial LMDE KDE UP6
I installed LMDE KDE UP6 and until now everything works perfectly! (except for Device Driver Manager that doesn't recognize my AMD card, which doesn't matter to me, since i use open drivers anyway)
Thank you very much for your work.

Re: [HELP!] Mint 12 KDE Update Manager wants to remove KDE
Stel, mintupdate and synaptic are just frontends for apt, so they should have the same behavior. they don't, it's true: first because according to the levels selected in MU the upgrade output varies (those levels have no influence in apt or in synaptic); secondly the informative windows are not ver...

Re: [HELP!] Mint 12 KDE Update Manager wants to remove KDE
jim, unfortunately that screenshot is not telling us much (and that is one of the limitations of mintupdate: with complex updates involving upgrades+additions+removals the real information given to the user is short). as tdockery was suggesting above "look at the whole scenario" and there...

Re: [HELP!] Mint 12 KDE Update Manager wants to remove KDE
Sorry for the late reply, but yes, it is not a solution, it is a workaround. It happens to me every time there is a big update of KDE packages.

Re: [HELP!] Mint 12 KDE Update Manager wants to remove KDE
I have the same problem with Mint Maya KDE. My solution is to start Synaptic, then click on "status" at the lower left corner, select "installed (upgradable)" and mark everything there for upgrade. In this case, i do not get any messages that any packets will be removed. ( carefu...

Re: System freezing - Mint 13 Cinnamon
Installing the 1.6.0_32 version of Java, as described by neologist in page 3, solved the problem for me. Perhaps there are more that one reasons for those freezes, but that was the solution that worked im my case.

Re: Kernel Updates
Did I ask a stupid question? There is not such a thing as a "stupid question" Click on the mint update icon , go to edit, then preferences and check level 5 updates to enable them. After that, the available Kernel updates will appear. You can always update the kernel through the Synaptic ...

Re: Poll: Desktop environments
At this moment, the most user friendly and stable DE is KDE. If you want to install a linux distribution to your friend's computer, without having him on the phone all the time asking you why this or that stopped working after an update, or how to add a certain functionality he needs, KDE is the obv...

MATE packages in Mint 12KDE RC
Playing around with Synaptic, i found several MATE packages installed: mate-conf , mate-conf-common, python-mate, libmatecomponentui, libmatekeyring, libmateui, libmate, libmatecanvas, libmatecomponent, mate-common, mate-cobra, mate-mime-data, mate-vfs. Is there any reason for them to be there or ca...

I modified those icons a bit, so that they can be used with dark themes and added two more, if anyone is interested. I left just the white wireframe, the rest is transparent.
