Sadly it turned out to be something very very simple. I left my e-reader plugged in via usb and I'm thinking because it also runs on a version of linux they had some compatibility issues and it crashed the install I was trying to do. inxi didn't get support for showing cd/dvd devices until recently. You have to run the latest inxi (sudo inxi -U), the one in mint is way out of date now. inxi -Idx -d extends -D to show cd/dvd information, and the -x shows a bit more data about each drive. When trying load a cd/dvd mint 11 doesnt or cant recognize the dev/sr0.
