Please, PLEASE figure out how to eliminate the tinted bar at the top. It is basically the bottom notification bar that is there by default in gnome shell. It got moved to the top when you moved the top panel to the bottom. I can't get it to go away. It auto-hides on mouse over and then reappears aft...

You could also just try installing the non-experimental version of wine and then lib32asound2-plugins from the package manager. That worked great for me.

Something to consider about Gnome is whether you're planning on going to Gnome 3 or not. I personally greatly dislike both Gnome 3 and Ubuntu's Unity interface and had to make a decision to move to something else because all support for Gnome 2.x will cease in a few years once the Ubuntu LTS edition...
