Arrows to move panel left/right to another monitor?

In LMDE2 (Mate), the panel could be configured to show left/right arrows on each end of the panel, which (if clicked) moved the panel to the screen to the left or right. I've been unable to find a way to accomplish this in LMDE3 Cinnamon. Is there a similar configuration/feature/panel app available ...

Re: SSH key-only authentication on LMDE3

Ok - chalk another one up to not understanding what I had read. The system is actually operating exactly as it is supposed to in my current configuration. I finally realized this after setting up a key pair and testing from LiveCDs of both LMDE3 and Arch Linux - both displayed the same "symptom" of ...

Re: SSH key-only authentication on LMDE3

Hi PhilippeH! Thanks for the link. I went through the steps carefully, but I had already performed the steps. I'm thinking this might have something to do with Debian. Some folks said that by getting rid of the gnome items at startup, that it would resolve the issue. I didn't find this to be true. W...

[SOLVED] SSH key-only authentication on LMDE3

I've pored over the documentation and websites for a few days now. I'm seeing that most instructions for SSH about how to setup "PasswordAuthentication no" (key-only authentication) vary from OS to OS. I'm having difficulty finding documentation which will help me understand key-only authenticated S...

Re: Deleting an SSH key pair?

I wasn't able to find a clear answer to my question about known_hosts online, so I just experimented by backing up known_hosts, then opening it up and deleting the two entries which appeared to be the auto-generated keys. I then created a new set of public/private keys. Everything appears to be work...

Re: Deleting an SSH key pair?

Thanks, Catweazel. The link you provided was one of the sites I had visited which mentioned the problem/bug. However, I was uncertain of the explanations in the "workaround" section, or what the implications would be. My preference is the first workaround mentioned. I'm curious about the ~/.ssh/know...

Re: Deleting an SSH key pair?

So, When I try ssh-add -D (which I forgot to mention, I had tried earlier), I receive an "All identities removed" message. However, the identities have not been removed. One of the afforementioned websites had indicated that this is because the -D switch only applies to manually added keys. So, I tr...

Re: Deleting an SSH key pair?

catweazel....

Arghhhh! I had my head so into finding the answer online (and reading through the subsequent arguments there), that I overlooked the man. Thanks for the direction. As soon as I find the solution, I'll post it and mark this as solved.

Thanks!

[SOLVED] Deleting an SSH key pair?

So, I've used Linux for years now, but I have never jumped into the SSH thing...until now. I've setup an Arch machine to be my fileserver. Everything is working great, but I'd like to be able to manage the Arch system remotely (from my LMDE3 machine within the same network). I setup SSH, and everyth...

Re: vi, vim, xed says file has changed

Well, the problem seems to have rectified itself, as I haven't had the problem in quite some time (probably since the day after my initial post.) I'll mark this post as "SOLVED" because no further action appears to be necessary.

Re: firejail, firefox, and network fstab mounts

Well, I never did find documentation to fully explain this portion of firejail, but I have it "fixed" to the best of my abilities. In case it helps anyone else...here's what I did. In reading the manual again, I arrived at the "firefox.profile" file. In my default installation of firejail on LMDE3, ...

[SOLVED] firejail, firefox, and network fstab mounts

I've used firejail for years (mainly for my web browser). I always knew that when firejail was working for web browsing, that I'd only be able to save links and files to my Downloads folder. However, today (using LMDE3), I noticed that I can also save to any network locations setup in fstab. I'm not...

Re: [SOLVED] BIOS not seeing OS/boot loader

I just wanted to drop a line in and thank everyone again for the education.

I ended up installing Cindy on a test system today, and the GPT/UEFI/EFI stuff all went perfectly well - due to your help, and my resulting new understanding.

Thanks again for sticking with me through this process.

Re: vi, vim, xed says file has changed

Mostly php, html, and css files. Sometimes on a network share mounted in fstab, and other times in the local /var/www/html/subfolder - the subfolder has 755 permisions set on it.

Thanks,

[SOLVED] vi, vim, xed says file has changed

Ever since I installed Cindy, I've noticed that when I use vi, vim, or xed (I haven't used other data-entry programs yet), that if I leave the keyboard for some time (an hour, or overnight), and if I have left a document open...it will tell me that the file has changed on the hard drive, and ask me ...

Re: [SOLVED] BIOS not seeing OS/boot loader

gm10....Your point is well-taken. There is a reason I didn't get back to you with the data, but it's too convoluted to go into, and it's all water under the bridge at this point anyway. I certainly appreciate your help and good nature.

Re: Nemo sidebar "Places"?

Thank you both for the quick responses! I think that simply dragging some of the links from My Computer down into the Bookmarks section will roughly accomplish what I wanted. One other question...I notice that when I disconnect a device (eject a USB hard drive mount, etc), that "Places" scrolls all ...

[SOLVED] Nemo sidebar "Places"?

I am new to Cinnamon, and notice that when I open Nemo (file browser) it lists "My Computer" "Bookmarks" "Devices" and "Network" in the "Places" sidebar. However, I have been unable to rearrange them. (For instance, I'd like "Bookmarks" to appear above "My Computer" instead of below it)...is there a...

Re: [SOLVED] BIOS not seeing OS/boot loader

Thanks Rene,

The final determining factor in my GPT/MBR decision ended up being: Since I couldn't do what I wanted with UEFI/GPT, I decided to dual-boot this system with Win, so that drove me to the MBR side of things.
