Re: 18.3 XFCE is so rock solid

In my honest Opinion the 18.3 is so rock solid it is going to be so hard for a newer version to supersede it. Ok it may boot 2.3 milliseconds faster or may be able to leap a little bit taller building in a single bound but holy bejebus christ I am really so liking this compared to the other OS choi...

Re: Linux Mint 19 “Tara” MATE – BETA Release

Too bad bug reporting is so difficult, and there is no feedback. "lost in the blog"... Wasn't that an old sci-fi movie in the 60's? That's a lousy way to handle bug reporting :( There has to be a better way to do that. And it has to be a pain for them too with so many posts. Honestly, setting up a ...

Re: Linux Mint 19 “Tara” MATE – BETA Release

Installed it on my laptop, seems VERY polished for a beta release. Mint 19 will be great! I agree. It is just about ready for prime time :) The only thing I'm seeing right now is Mint Y theme icons are still off, getting ugly gnome icons with it. Also the bottom panel doesn't scale correctly when y...

Re: Installing Mint on a Chromebook?

For most Chromebooks to run a full install of linux you have to remove the write protection and flash the bios. The exception is if you run Crouton, which will run Linux within ChromeOS. I have flashed the bios on 2 Chromebooks, it is a PITA. But first you need to look at your hardware and see what ...

Re: Updating my Linux Mint 17.2

31 gb I'd use a single partition with root. I've installed Mint on 32gb usb sticks (full install) single partition without issue. Just keep in mind not much room for extras, but plenty of room for software. I'd choose 'something else' during install, look hard at the partition to choose the right on...

Re: Nerdy types dismissing Linux Mint.

I want my OS to work for me, not me always working to fix my OS. That is why I won't use rolling releases like Arch. There are just 3 distros I stick with now: Debian Stable, MX, and Mint. Mint has always had a conservative attitude regarding their distro, and I like that. When others were chasing '...

I used the update manager to update to the most recent 4.15 kernel and my trackpoint has come back to life! Is there any reason not to stick with this one?
Great! If it works--keep it :)

Re: Lenovo TrackPoint issues

I've got s second gen lenovo thinkpad 13. I've had a look in the update history and there isnt a mention of updating the kernel. Just trying to work out how to export all the updates. I'm currently running 4.13.0-43 kernel. You have a newer Thinkpad than mine, and the trackpoint works on my 3 Think...

Re: Whats everyone currently listening to?

You and I would get alone just fine. I've hung out with Steve Howe years ago. Super nice but strange guy. He was one of my biggest influences to learn guitar. BTW ... Rush is right after Triumph on my iPOD  That would be awesome to meet him :) Rush is my favorite band. I've been listening ...

Re: Your Computer Specs and Price Paid

Lots of frugal people here recycling computers--I love it :D My other main computer is a T420 Thinkpad. Dual core Sandybridge. I increased the ram from 4gb to 8gb, and replaced the cd/dvd drive with an extra hard drive bay. Paid $188 for it, probably a bit over $200 with the extra bay and added ram....

Just mowed the yard and set my iPOD on some old Triumph
Triumph is one of my favorite bands, along with Rush and Yes. They have a similar sound.

Re: The "fox" is buying the hen house??? Microsoft purchases Github

Github had everything in place and MS was happy to take it over. Not sure it will make them much money, but it will give them control over a huge repository of software and connection with developers, and that latter part may be the real reason they were interested in controlling Github. I think in ...

Re: Preparing for Mint to drop the KDE distro

If you installed the boot loader to root it should only update grub at root, say sdb1 for instance if that is where you installed the OS.
