Re: After 20 attempts, finally registered on forum!

I never use Logout. I just close the tab. If that helps, or makes any difference. Not sure that helps if you clear cookies when you close browser / power off PC Thanks. But I don't see this as an issue. Power Off the PC? Are you crazy? OK, it's not an issue for you. Sometimes I want, or need to, po...

Re: After 20 attempts, finally registered on forum!

No problems with new password. So far no problems with logging in. Lucky you! Got an email notif of reply to the thread, followed link in email and I had to log in to read it. Why? It's on the open forum. Still had to try several times before I could log in. Oh well, I'll be patient, must be a real...

Re: After 20 attempts, finally registered on forum!

I'm pleasantly surprised at how quickly the message board and main site were restored and I understand it'll take a little while to get things sorted completely but just FYI, I'm still having to make several attempts at logging in and the Captcha isn't clear: I've been unable to distinguish an N fro...

Um, isn't it a good idea to keep the forum software up-to-date rather than use an old version, as was the case.

Re: Things getting far worse

I just wanted to edit my previous post. When I submitted it I got the message, that I have been banned, because my iP address has been misused because of spamming. That is impossible, as my current IP address cannot be used by anybody else and am I am connected to the Internet since this morning wi...

Re: Great that we are back

Good to see the main site and message board up and running again so quickly but I echo what Cosmo says. Log-in is a pain (and the Captcha isn't user-friendly) I have a real problem: I have logged off and back in this evening several times. On the 2 last occasions my log in had been rejected and I wa...

Re: Power on fails after Linux Mint shutdown - OK on cold bo

If anyone can come up with an answer - or suggestions - for Paul I'd be interested as I have the same problem. Two desktops (self build), both Asrock H81M, one running an Intel G3250, other an Intel G1840. If we have a power cut, or if I re-boot (G1840) PC, it won't boot for hours. I can hear the po...

Re: Mint is a terrible Linux desktop

Then again, all I have to do is remember how INTERESTING life with Windows XP was, and my boredom is cured! I really liked XP, which is why I didn't bother with 7/Vista/8/8.1 or - thank heavens - 10. Sometimes I do actually miss not regularly spending hours checking that all my software is up-to-da...

Re: forum no longer automatically subscribing me to my posts

Can't help you, linx255, but if it's any consolation: same here. Just tried austin.texas' suggestion re re-creating email notifs, will see if that helps. Think there's still 'server issues' as I sometimes see lines of error messages at the top of pages. Sh*t happens and I'm sure the guys who run the...

Re: Firefox not updated?

Sorted (I think)! Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux i686; rv:43.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/43.0 Your mention of Firefox not from the repositories reminded me that I'd installed Seamonkey, looks like it was that that did it (or, didn't do it). Removed it and re-updated Firefox, looks to be good. Thanks ...

Re: Firefox not updated?

Thanks for your continuing help, Cosmo. Tried re-installing via Synaptic, still says v42 Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:42.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/42.0 Being a Linux newb I stick with what's in the official repositories unless there's something I *really* want / want to try. Ah, but if I go to this page re 43.0.1 it says, "Congrats! You’re using the latest version of Firefox." I really don't think I am, at least, not 43.0.1

Firefox not updated? [SOLVED]

Firefox > Help > About Firefox says I have v42 installed, this page says I have an old version installed.

Yet if I go into Synaptic it says 43.0+linuxmint1+rosa is the installed version.

Any ideas?

Thanks for asking the question as I was wondering, too. Seems like a bit of unnecessary bloat to me, though maybe some will love it.

And thanks for the answer, Cosmo
