The bug is filed here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/synaptic/+bug/1178024 And thanks to comment #5, I went diggin for how to install the old version. This seems to have worked for me: Install the older/working version of Synaptic Download the .deb you need from here: http://packages.deb...

Re: Mate 1.6 released - Someone already tried?
For those who have upgraded to MATE 1.6, you can download mintmenu 5.4.0 from the Olivia repository ( http://packages.linuxmint.com/pool/main/m/mintmenu/mintmenu_5.4.0_all.deb ) and manually install it. Thanks! The horizontal separators in the Favorites Pane look a little funky but it works. (Mint ...

As with anything, I'd have to try it before deciding to switch to it.

Re: Optimization Linux Mint ??
Great post, Vincent! I had already disabled most of those startup applications. ;) I couldn't get online anymore (WiFi) after commenting out dnsmasq. Removed the hashmark and restarted network-manager and it works fine again. For further optimization, I'm wondering if compiling a custom kernel would...

Re: Pidgin - block offline contacts from sending messages?
Now you got me curious. I don't see one that exists, but it should be possible to have an Auto-reply plugin with options for auto-replying based on status -- some I see can do it based on Protocol or by Contact.
Think we need to look into Pidgin Plugin development.

Re: Pidgin - block offline contacts from sending messages?
I know what you mean, though I've only had people who are set to Away all the time.
You might have to just send them a message that says something to that effect, but maybe make it look like an error message using the /me command.

Re: "could not write bytes: Broken pipe" is message at shutd
I spoke too soon . . . The second reboot after running the command did not display the "broken pipe" error, but later when I shut down I saw the error again.
Package manager doesn't show anything under Broken packages. All updates have been installed.

Re: "could not write bytes: Broken pipe" is message at shutd
The following seemed to fix it: 1) Open Terminal, and go root 2) Run the following code: (Replace mdm with lightdm if you use LightDM) dpkg-reconfigure mdm 3) Reboot (And see the "Broken pipe" message for the last time) 4) At this time the message was gone, but the Mint desktop did not lo...
