Re: Cinnamon 2.2 is awesome!

If I were you I would wait for LM 17 and then try Cinnamon 2.2. After all Cinnamon is for Mint, Mint is for Cinnamon. :) You know that you're saying that Cinnamon is no Linux DE, but only a Linux Mint DE? If this really is the case, it should be pointed out clearly by the Devs that Cinnamon is Mint...

Re: Cinnamon 2.2 is awesome!

http://segfault.linuxmint.com/2014/04/cinnamon-2-2/ Wish I could say it's awesome, but in my arch install, Cinnamon 2.2 boots into a grey screen and I cannot do anything but move the mousepointer around. Do you have Gnome 3.10 installed? Nevermind, I'll try Cinnamon 2.4 when it's ready, one disappo...

Re: Best Display server for Linux Mint.

Luckly or so its seems mint wont need to worry bout anything till after the next LTS of ubuntu. Seems will be either Wayland or Mir. My guess will be Mint will follow whatever Debian does. Debian going the direction of more "Free Open source" will probably lean to Wayland. But time will t...

Re: Future of MATE shows Wayland support

IMHO, depending on Gnome 3 components wil kill MATE, Gnome 3 is anything but stable an reliable. Wayland support seems to be trendy these days, but I fear Wayland is Inte's attempt to push AMD/NVidia out of Linux , to take over linux and turn it into a mobile only system.

Re: Forks: Compiz-MATE 0.8.8, mate-globalmenu 0.7.10 (LMDE)

Hello, coming to news since mint 15's out. Does matepiz works out-of-the-box with mint 15 or does it need to be tweaked before being available? Good question, compiz 0.9.x has kept me from installling Mint 15 up to now , if there's no possibility to use compiz 0.8 with it, I will not use Mint 15 Ha...

Re: Mate 1.6 released - Someone already tried?

MATE 1.6 just destroyed my other OS, Manjaro, I strongly recommend to stay away from that broken 1.6 stuff, it can destroy your whole OS! H. Don't panic, Manjaro in its current state has enough power to "destroy" itself after the update. :) I've experienced that once - another update went...

Good luck, you will need it....

Re: Mate 1.6 released - Someone already tried?

Well, after reading this: http://mate-desktop.org/2013/04/02/mate-1-6-released/ I am sure, I will not use MATE 1.6.
Maybe a customized xfce 4.10 is my next desktop, MATE 1.6 certainly is not my new DE.

Re: Mate 1.6 released - Someone already tried?

Same repos like in the webupd8.org install guide. This does not work under Mint 14 MATE, tried it, the 1.4 packages stay up-to-date on Mint 14 with these sources.

Re: Who came up with this ugly MATE 1.6 or copy of GNOME 3.8

Here's the Blog announcement: http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=2225. I've looked through it and cannot find anywhere that it told you to change your repositories. All it tells you to do is to tick the box to enable Backports. This would only enable updates put through by Mint, not directly from the MAT...

Re: Mate 1.6 released - Someone already tried?

I can understand completely how people can complain about that stoopid move to gsettings when this move destroys their customized desktops and turms it into this: http://forums.linuxmint.com/download/file.php?id=13250&mode=view Sounds like a typical Gnome3ified move (break things with an update,...

Re: Mate is the best desktop ever out

Sure, I'll bite... Through my experience with Linux, I came to the conclusion that no DE compares to XFCE in terms of practicality, flexibility, compatibility, elegance (bwahaha!) and speed. It's quite rare to find such combination in one DE, not even Cinnamon, MATE, or KDE. And I think Linux Mint ...

Re: Mate is the best desktop ever out

Stability: Cinnamon freezes a couple of times a day, in 90% of these cases, it is sufficient to restart cinnamon, but it causes complete system freezes at least 2 times a day, where i had to pull the power plug from my machine and power it up again. This is a no go for productivity systems and disq...

Re: Mate is the best desktop ever out

So, tested both, Cinnamon and MATE and came to the conclusion that MATE works much much better and, what's most important for me,is nuch more stable. After one week with Cinnamon on a fresh Mint 14 install on a physical harddisk, I made the following experiences: Configurability: Cinnamon is very co...

Re: The new GNOME Classic session

The default MATE has two panels and the Applications | Places | System menu, it's the customization done by Linux Mint that turns it into one panel with one integrated menu... Fortunately the MATE Panels can be easily customized, so two (or even more) panels and the 'original' Gnome 2/MATE tri-Menu...

Re: New Gnome DE: Consort

The SoulsOS crew have recently decided to fork Gnome 3's fallback mode - seen from the sidelines an inevitable progress of the project and likely a more viable solution than maintaining a cluster of patches for whatever trickles down from upstream. The Gnome landscape is becoming more and more comp...
