I didn't remove them first as I wanted to keep the associated settings and bookmarks etc.
These are stored in your home folder, they shouldn't be removed when you remove the package.

Re: Upgrade LMDE2 to LMDE3 'Delete Foreign Packages' issue

It's a quirk in aptdaemon (which mintsources tool uses for removing/downgrading foreign packages). It won't remove packages that are marked as Essential: yes to avoid removing crucial system packages. But it also doesn't want to remove less important packages that only have Priority: required set. Re: Personal Data Encryption

The default LMDE installer doesn't support that (except for doing it via the command line in the expert partitioning mode).
Try Calamares installer from the menu - maybe it supports that?

I think they could've been removed if you've followed the "D8. Delete foreign packages" section of the upgrade tutorial.

Both packages are available in Debian repos, so they should install fine. Just in case, check your repositories with inxi -r.

It might be better to add jessie-backports repo and install the package from there.

Re: [SOLVED] Missing library libQtNetwork.so.4

I recall that in older versions you needed to update the file index first... sudo apt-file update Also if you need to search only through the installed packages, Mint's apt script can do it too: $ apt contains libQtNetwork.so.4 libqt4-network:amd64: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libQtNetwork.so.4 libqt4...

Re: Why does gnome-terminal ignore $HOME/bin ?

Yes, it is the display manager. Ubuntu has a patch for lightdm to make it read these profile files. As I understand it, they did it because it was so in gdm, the display manager Ubuntu used before lightdm. See the discussion here . Debian doesn't have such patch. Here it's stated that the display ma...

Looks like something is missing in Debian for the guest session to work, so it's disabled in lightdm-settings tool.

Do you have any additional repositories enabled? Because libglvnd0 and libglx0 aren't in LMDE 3 or Debian Stretch repos.

Ah, I missed the live part. Ok, then adding another virtual CD/DVD device could be a solution. It's possible to do in the VM settings.

Re: NVIDIA driver and LMDE withe newer kernel

Just to make sure, you can check which driver is used by running inxi -G in the terminal.
If it's indeed nouveau, you can try the proprietary drivers instead and see if they make the situation better.

You can run it from the terminal:

gksudo live-installer
