Re: "Safe Updates" to LMDE 2 MATE Breaks Desktop <<< FYI ONLY >>>

Unfortunately, applying all the "safe updates" (1s and 2s) -- and only the "safe updates" -- to both systems broke the desktop. Specifically, the desktop did not load: no menus, no tray, no icons -- just a black screen with the mouse pointer (that worked). Looks like this bug .

Re: How to Revert a Kernel Update

Use the grub menu at boot to choose Advanced options, then scroll down to the old kernel and press enter to boot into it. Once booted into the good kernel use the Linux Mint Update Manager through View/Linux kernels to uninstall the problem kernel That works only in Ubuntu-based Mint... in Debian i...

Re: Recovering from mate-panel + Caja crash

But if "caja crashes and there is no way to interact with the OS", then you won't be able to click on the launcher too... It probably won't even be on the desktop at that time, as the desktop is managed by Caja.

Re: Changing icon or color on the right side panel

Ok, I see it in volume control icon. Thought we already fixed that... but no, it happens in both Mint 18.2 and LMDE. I'll try to fix it. For now, you can use a few workarounds to make it react to a new icon theme: - mute and then unmute the sound (middle-click on the icon) - resize the panel until t...

Re: Printer driver needs old library

That's what I saw at that page - I didn't actually try to install it; it might be that there's something more hidden :)

To play it safe, I would try it first in some local system, maybe even a VM.
