With LM12, I found that simply disabling and re-enabling the touchpad using Mouse preferences did the trick. So, perhaps gpointing-device-settings may not be required.

yeah, really positive review :) ... I hope more and more people adopt Mint - wish there was an accurate estimate of Mint's user base.

Re: Poll: Desktop environments

While I personally like KDE, I vote for Cinnamon because of way the it's maturing (amazing). Plus, wide adoption of Cinnamon would be great for the Mint team/devs/users/community.

Well, the reviewer seems to be falling in love with Cinnamon... calles ver 1.4 a "stairway to heaven" :)

Re: A very 'pertinent' review of Cinnamon

That is such a poor review. Several misunderstandings, lots of ranting. His applets are too close to eachother because he is using a theme that hasn't been updated since before the great everything-is-an-applet shift (Cinnamon 1.3). He seems unaware both of this and that "Minty" as the theme is cal...

Re: List of problems for new installer: Feb 2012

Greetings, After reinstalling LM 12 (lisa), I tried to install LMDE next to it. I left plenty of space for another boot partition. swap, etc., but I couldn't install because not matter how I configured the install partition with gparted, I kept getting an error message saying that root/ was missing...

Re: Touchpad stops working in Mint 12

The gpointing-device-settings solution worked for me. However, the problem repeated itself today and when I opened the gpointing menu, the "Disable Touchpad" box was unchecked. Checking it and unckecking it solved the problem all right, but I lost all hope that this was a permanent solution. It was...

Re: Why is Linux Mint so popular?

@ erbad: Adding to the (excellent) points made by Lumikki, these are a few additional reasons why I would recommend Mint: 1. Updates are 'graded' on a scale of 1-5. Upgrades of level 4 and 5 which might introduce instability are disabled by default. This makes the system more stable. (I've never had...

Re: [SOLVED] Few quick questions about donations

So here's how it works: a) After the amount is sent through Paypal, you get an email from root@linuxmint.com . b) Your name (as registered with Paypal) and the amount donated shows up on the webpage: http://www.linuxmint.com/donors.php c) The email has a link and a password/ access code. d) You can ...

Re: Touchpad stops working in Mint 12

Perhaps it's a spill over from an upstream (Ubuntu) bug. I had the same issues with Ubuntu 11.10 and LM12 no matter which test machine I tried.
The mouse works fine, though.

Well... all hopes pinned on LM 13 :)

Ok, the 2nd question was seriously dumb. Found this tool for Paypal's deductions:

Still the 1st question is one I'm still unsure about...

[SOLVED] Few quick questions about donations

Hi,

1. How can one donate such that the username and not the real name shows in the donation? (I'm new to Paypal... might follow up with some even dumber questions)
2. Does Paypal deduct ~30% of the amount donated as service charges? (Edit: Wow! Man that was a dumb question!)

Thanks

Re: List of problems for new installer: Feb 2012

In addition to c_malc's very pertinent points:
For new ISO's, a new installer would be great - one that has the option for auto-partitioning. Even Debian's own installer has that option.
(LVM would be great too, but then, even Ubiquity doesn't have that yet...)

Re: Linux vs Windows 7 & System Restore

I suppose its about just getting rid of programs that take up space (though I am not hurting for space or anything). But what you both have told me is that regardless, because of the partitioned drive, that it will have no effect on my LM12 speed. If I do this, will it just clear up the crap on my ...

I had a go at Linux many years ago when i was about twelve, It was a Red Hat 3 somethingsomething... I think i spendt 3 weeks figuring out how to ...

Re: Funny distrowatch snapshot

 that makes me sad I'm sure it's a one-day 'statistical thing', as the hit's per day data accumulate over the next few days, the popularity of the distros would change too. So why sad? :) I feel Distrowatch's rankings should be taken with a grain of salt... tells nothing about the actual user ...

Funny distrowatch snapshot

Thought I would share this funny distrowatch ranking snapshot... the 'avg 6-monthly' popularity of all major distros seems to be tanking today (4th Feb 2012)
Scroll the image and see upto Rank 20 (the trend continued upto rank 41 (Frugalware) ....
