Some players use "wine" and "playonlinux". Go to their website and find out if it's something for you.

Re: Configuring my menu

In general, you can use a launcher button placed on the desktop. And if you search your system for all files ending with ".desktop" you could copy this file to "~/Desktop" (or similar depending on language setup). Next step, make sure it's executable and change the name as you like. Or depending on ...

I've noticed the same thing, so you're not alone seeking for guidance. I'm using main GNOME version, but i've tried all the other DM as well, and same story there.

Re: window list and workspace switcher in bottom panel

Go to: "cinnamon settings" -> "Applets" -> And then tick in "cinnamon window list" and "workspace switcher". Hope it works out for you. OP: The order in which the applets are placed on the panel are different almost every time i log in, any ideas about that? And now they're all to the very left... i...

A solution was given in the Ubuntu Forum, I suppose it can apply to your problem as well. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=802156 Or maybe this can do de same/similar: http://en.newinstance.it/2009/06/22/the-following-signatures-were-invalid-badsig-40976eaf437d05b5-ubuntu-archive-automatic-s...

I'm sure you've already did this, but just to not overdo things, logout and switch between normal, gnome, gnome classic, mate...
And then tell us if you can notice any difference. Any anomalies can help in troubleshooting.

Re: mint-fortune in Mint 12

Well, thx for all your effort but I managed to fix it in a different way. The issue here was that a simple blank and a couple of " " was making the default script for mint-fortune non-aware if the checkbox was ticked or not. So if anyone has the same issue, I make my version available here: #!/bin/b...

Re: mint-fortune in Mint 12

Looks like you need to get a check mark into that box under "Varde" Ooh, i've got it to work when changed in the mint-fortune bash script. So... Fortunes is showin up despite both gconf and mateconf gives me false value / "That is the magic sudo command. So put \ | sudo in front of the command and ...

Re: mint-fortune in Mint 12

So it would seem, but now I can't revert.
And it looks like it's 'mateconf' editor and not gconf editor that's installed.

[solved] mint-fortune in Mint 12

The thing is I couldn't see the nit-wit fortunes when I opened a terminal. After a little search on How-To, I changed a bit in mint-fortune bash script sudo gedit /usr/bin/mint-fortune And commented out the control function, whether you wished the fortunes or not. if [ -x "/usr/bin/gconftool-2" ]; t...

Re: Where... or what is MBR (multi-boot)?!

There are no such things as "stupid" questions. Is the first line of Forum rules. So don't feel embarrassed. MBR stands for Master Boot Record, and the way i've learned is that it's the very first sector of a physical harddrive where it contains further instructions of what to do next. i.e boot an ...

I can confirm that thing about dynamic number of workspaces, cool idea,
but how many can you have without draining the comp. resources? (*I wonder in a curious 'humm')
