Re: Repositories - what am I doing wrong?

I had just a look at the other side of the wall... As I needed one app update, I installed for some minutes this repo: (btw it's conflicting with a Mint repo) deb http://ftp.fr.debian.org/debian wheezy main I was just informed that over 800 updates were waiting... If you add MATE and some other Min...

Re: Update Pack 3 Released! Update Information

Whenever gnome 3.2 was released is "irrelevant" when it comes to the update packs. What the mint developpers will do is wait till all of Gnome 3.2 moves from Sid to Testing. They don't have a say in that (at least not as mint developpers), though: this decision is made upstream. When the d...

Re: LMDE a sleeping distro?

PclinuxOS seems a nice distro. Although it is tested on 64 bits, it only comes as 32 bits so far. This is not a big deal, unless you have a 4 Gb ram you'd like to use Just use the pae kernel. As for it not being as up to date as LMDE, I can't say I have done an in depth study, but a few weeks ago I...

After having a look, I'm not sure that the distro is much more up-to-date than LMDE, though. But I'll gladly admit that I didn't hav...

Re: LMDE a sleeping distro?

I am already in the search for my new distro of choice. Thanks for the suggestion but I see Chakra is KDE only right? Anyway, after 3 months of LMDE usage I can say I am verry happy with what this distro offered to me, but I can't stay without updates anymore. Also, I am not happy with what I saw o...

Re: LMDE a sleeping distro?

Berneri, It wasn't Davarish who posted the opinions you disagree with Wasn't he? I was disagreeing with both Davarish's views of "official users" —whatever that may be— and Stevie_bingo less than constructive post. Maybe the confusion arose because I didn't quote Stevie_bingo properly. I'...

Re: LMDE a sleeping distro?

I think I'd come around with my two pence. Well, Davarish, all I have to say about your ranting is this: the GNU/Linux ecosystem offers sufficient variety for you to go and try out. The basic consumerism you show in your posts is irrelevant: you don't pay for this distro. As explained, LMDE offers a...

Re: Pack 3

Yes, you can only have one instance of apt-get running. Both mint-update and synaptic are frontends to apt-get, which means that you cannot open one while the other one is running. Note that if the shield on the bottom right of your screen is empty, i.e. is unchecked, mint-update is performing an ap...

Re: Pressing Power button or closing laptop lid: no effects

It appears that at least the sleep (suspend to ram) and the lid button are recognized: when the computer is "sleeping", pressing Fn+F4 will wake it up also, when I close the lid, the screen will be switched. Besides, typing acpitool -e gives the following output Device S-state Status Sysfs...

Pressing Power button or closing laptop lid: no effects

Hi all, I migrated from Ubuntu to LMDE at the beginning of September. Everything works fine and my clevo m735t laptop is able to suspend/wake or hibernate/thaw without any problems. However, when I press the power button, no dialog box shows up asking me what to do, which is the setting in gnome-pow...

Re: Thunar Freezing in LMDE Xfce 201108

Hi, although I'm very new to this forum, I might have an hint of a solution. In the /etc/hosts and /etc/hostname files. A while ago, I experienced the same kind of problem on Ubuntu, and the problem was solved by modifying the /etc/hosts file as follows: 127.0.0.1 localhost I think the /etc/hostname...
