Mint 19 kernel, Luks and Cinnamon issues on ThinkPad after update

Well today was a rough morning with the ThinkPad T440. Everything was going well, loaded updates and rebooted on a new kernel, got the blank screen of death. Had to boot the previous kernel to get a Luks prompt, by hitting down error on Grub screen, then Luks prompt came via console not graphical. D...

Re: gedit ugly flat B&W icons

Thank you, Odyseus. I went to Preferences->Appearance/Themes->(Tab Other Settings) and changed Icons to Tango, and got my Gedit color icons back. It seems weird how many different parts of Linux and applications suddenly turned monochrome. It's not like it's what the masses are demanding. High contr...

gedit ugly flat B&W icons

Hi, Funny, I had this same problem with LibreOffice. The default icon them for Gedit is now Black & White, ugly flat black icons. (Just like defaults LO on Ubuntu family Linux's). Just like LO, I changed the Theme to Tango, and just like LO, I am still stuck with ugly flat B&W icons. So, I go to Syn...

Re: apt reverting from Mint 17 Cinnamon to Ubuntu?!

I completed the update, rebooted and concluded there's really no problem. Apparently the Mint updates overwrote /etc/issue with "Mint" further down the update chain.

What threw me off was the prompt to keep, replace, or diff /etc/issue. Hadn't seen that before.

apt reverting from Mint 17 Cinnamon to Ubuntu?!

After running updates applet, I noticed my ownCloud client had not updated. So I ran apt-get update and apt-get upgrade from the command line, and I noticed it had updated base-files, X11, and a bunch of other stuff. Then it asked me if I wanted to change /etc/issue, so I looked at the diff, it want...

No problem, I keep a separate /home partition for that very reason.

Upgrade 15 to 16 to 17

I have a Mint 15 system and I was about to do an upgrade like http://www.tecmint.com/upgrade-linux-mint-15-olivia-to-linux-mint-16-petra/ ... but in preparing I found out that Mint 16 is already obsolete as well. If I try the upgrade, will I find the Mint 16 (and/or base Ubuntu) repo's missing like ...

Re: Can't set keyboard layout

I'm having the same problem with "Input Method Configuration" on Mint 15 64 Cinnamon, just installed, first login. This is a flat-out bug. While I understand the association between input methods (various keyboard layouts) and languages, I agree, the 3 locations for keyboard settings is beyond obscu...

Re: HOW TO: Brother 32/64-bit Printer Drivers (and AirPrint!

Thanks so much for your post. I'm having the same problem as MichielO. How can I remedy this? That lpd connection may work fine, or you can go into CUPS http://localhost:631 , Printers Tab, pick your printer. and dropdown Modify Printer. This procedure worked great for me and my HL2270DW on Mint 14...

Re: After rebooting Cinnamon menus completely gone

Cinnamon works with vmware settings video accelerate 3D unticked... but my, how slow. Even these characters take 1/2 second each to echo.

MATE works OK with acceleration on, so I'm going to have to reboot and use that. Too bad, I really liked Cinnamon. :(

Re: Cinnamon crash/freeze

Try Ctrl-Alt-F1 and see if you can log into the alternate console (text mode). From there you can experiment on fixing it. I have the exact same problem. The mouse pointer moves but does not respond to clicks. There have been no solutions forthcoming on another thread about this: http://forums.linux...

Re: After rebooting Cinnamon menus completely gone

I'm running Linux Mint in a VM & I also have a missing bottom menu. The mouse isn't accepting clicks either. Sounds more like a config issue than a driver issue. Anyone else running into this problem? I have this problem as well. It happened after I updated vmware, but I had run updates on Mint bef...

I'm now on Mint 14 with this system, and still have to bring up the mixer and change output from "Headphones" to "Speakers" to get any audio (even if I'm really using Headphones!)

Menu missing, can't set focus policy <SOLVED>

Hi all, I'd like to set the focus policy to focus-follows-mouse, but the path Menu > Preferences > Window Manager doesn't work in my Mint 14 Cin 32bit- there is no "Window Manager". I tried installing gconf-editor, but it says there's no schema and indeed, is already set to focus follows mouse but d...

Mint 11 EOL, why am I still getting updates?

Why and who is updating it? Yes, I still have one system running Mint 11. I knew it was old but never realized that it was considered EOL http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=2189 because I keep getting updates. Yes, I keep my system up to date and re-check after each update. Or did I get transitioned to so...

Re: Firefox lost everything on update

Upgraded how, and are you sure you are using the same firefox profile? I used the Update Manager toolbar icon and let it do its thing. Great question! Thanks for the insight! In .mozilla/firefox/ I have the default and an alternate profile, a "Remote" profile, that I occasionally use to disassociat...
