Re: [SOLVED]Dual boot LM 17 x64 MATE on HP laptop 15-f0009wm
Walmart recently dropped the prices on these machines, and I'm in the market to do the same thing you did, so thank you for the write-up!! How has performance on the Linux drive been? I've never used an AMD processor, and the salesperson at Walmart said it gets hot when using it; have you experience...

Re: MATE taskbars not loading
If your computer can handle Cinnamon then it should handle Mate but looking through this forum Mint 17 Mate has a lot problems. Mate 1.6 and above is very different and not as stable as Mate 1.2 and Mate 1.4. mate and Cinnamon on same system does cause major issues for many users. Some users experi...

Re: MATE taskbars not loading
Actually, I was being unduly calm in my last post. This doubling up of every icon in the Taskbar is starting to get on my nerves. I can't see any obvious options for fixing it. Any ideas? I don't know if it would work, but you can try mate-panel --reset in terminal to see what it does. I can't see ...

Re: MATE taskbars not loading
hitting Alt+F2 won't do anything. I cannot use any other keyboard shortcuts to launch the terminal either. The only way I could maybe get there is to do right-click, add Launcher, but I don't know where the Terminal is in the whole architecture of /. In any case, I successfully used mintmenu --reset...

MATE taskbars not loading
Hey guys, I use this everyday and about 3 days ago my MintMenu on my task bar stopped working. It would pop-up with an error and as if I wanted to reload, but it would never reload. So today, I removed the MintMenu and added a regularMenu (can't think of the exact one), but after I did that, my task...

If it's overheating then you have a hardware problem - heatsink not attached, CPU fan not running , case fan not running, overclocked processor, something... If it's overheating that easily then no OS will save you. Listen and feel for the rush of air from the fans. ... Have you done any temperatur...

Overheating with Windows 7
I have an Asus that overheats while running Win7. If I put Linux on there, will it draw less power and therefore less heat? I tried a liveCD last night and it cut off on me; I assume it was because it overheated. Currently I tell Win7 to ignore the high temperatures. Any ideas? Thanks!

Cinnamon worked on Live USB, but not when installed
When I previewed Mint 13, Cinammon worked in the live USB, but when I installed it, I could only get MATE to work. Any ideas why?

I just looked and I didn't see anything out of the ordinary. I am the only one who uses this, so I don't know why it did it to me that time. It's been fine ever since, thanks though!

Re: wireless internet access in mint 15
This is from Ubuntu, but should still apply - https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/bcm43xx#b43_-_No_Internet_access Best bet is to use something like the tether from your phone and use that for internet access, then install the drivers using the internet instructions on that page. Or fi...

Re: Computer won't boot - /tmp error
Thanks for the quick reply, I'll have to try this tonight. I did not drag and drop anything, and I haven't been running anything as root in a long time. The only time I even have been putting in my password is to login and when it tells me I need to update packages. But I didn't update anything last...

Computer won't boot - /tmp error
Been Using Mint for a while, upgraded to 13 a while back and once I got the graphics working (with MATE), it was fine. Last night, I tried to boot up and it did - except I couldn't open Firefox (or any program) or update anything. It kept giving my some error about permission and my /tmp. I turned i...

Re: Firefox Google Search Mint plugin
The Mint-branded search engine made my fiance want her Windows back. Not having the selection of Images or Shopping readily available was a deal-breaker for her. I removed the included Google search engine, added Google SSH and moved it to the top of the list. Everything's good now. If you use the ...

Re: Suspend Issue
I have never gotten it fixed. If I need to power it off, I just hold down the power button until it cuts off. If I need to boot back up, I have to turn it off first and then turn it back on.

Re: Can't get past "Preparing to Install"
It doesn't make it to that point. When I click continue, the cursor spins like it's thinking, but it won't show anything after that "internet conect//HDD space" page. The rest of the live environment continues to work fine, it seems to be only the installer that is locking up.

Can't get past "Preparing to Install"
I was trying to install Mint 13 Cinnamon 32 bit on a desktop that as Windows 7 on it. Live USB was working fine, made it using the dd command in terminal, and md5 matched for the .iso. However, whenever I tried to install Mint, it would freeze at the 2nd window (verifying HDD space and internet conn...
