Is there more that I can try? PCM sound means co-workers are subjected to my nonsense. Though it's rather quiet. I'd really like to use head phones if it's possible. Anyone got more ideas?

And did it work? model=mbp55 is said to work on MacMini 4,1. But yours is 5,1. When searching on Google for the 5,1's sound on Linux, I only get MacBook 5,1 which has very different hardware: nVidia MCP79 controller and Realtek ALC88x codec. Yours has an Intel 6 Series controller and Cirrus codec. ...

I followed the steps but it didn't work. :(
I also realised I failed to mention that the Mac mini is conected to the monitor with HDMI cable. (it works fine if I run the mac os)

Ok I found the solution... first install rEFIt on your Mac (this will give you the option of where to boot from) Next make a boot USB using YUMI (I tried different applications from the mac and linux and none worked. I have tried to use unetbooten to make a usb boot tool. Seems to be a problem with any version of linux I attempt to use. Can someone offer another way to do this?

Killed a Mac and made it work :?

hooked up a fire wire and did the install to the empty partition from an imac. trouble is it killed to boot file to the working imac. So though my problem is solved... i still would recommend finding a better way to do this.

I've tried to review "grub" commands, boot said no loaded kernel and nothing else seemed to work rather. I need to be careful since it's a new iMac mini and do not wish to delete the mac's OS. also most solutions seem to involve using a life cd. Can't try this as the mini has only usb ports. Please ...
