Have you installed compiz-fusion-plugins-extra yet?
I use LMDE, so I could be wrong, but to me it sounds as if you don't have the extra plugins.

Re: Drawbacks of a Rolling Release?
You are making it sound as if no one else is complaining Well, I know well others also complain... probably not enough :) RedHat funded (6 month release cycle) distro decided to lock me out for more than 6 months. I'm sorry, maybe I misunderstand you or my English is a little weak here bu...

Re: Drawbacks of a Rolling Release?
@linuxviolin You don't like Arch - good for you! You are making it sound as if no one else is complaining about KDE 4.5.... or changes to Gnome or NetworkManager or Xorg.... I would never have even considered a distro like Arch, but my RedHat funded (6 month release cycle) distro decided to lock me ...

Re: Drawbacks of a Rolling Release?
II've been running Arch Linux on my home desktop for six years. Arch Linux, or the art of making even more difficult than Slackware... :| I disagree. Arch has been good to me for over a year now. I update almost daily and sometimes even more than once a day. It seems that it is mostly people with v...

You could try this: gconftool-2 --type bool --set /apps/nautilus/preferences/desktop_is_home_dir "false" Edit user-dirs.dirs: gedit ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs ...and make sure that it looks like this: # This file is written by xdg-user-dirs-update # If you want to change or add directories, ...

Have you tried deleting the line you added to /etc/pam.d/gdm ?
The last line should read @include common-pamkeyring
Delete that line, save and quit.
It will not solve your initial problem, but it will restore /etc/pam.d/gdm back to its original state.
Code: Select all
gksu gedit /etc/pam.d/gdm
Delete that line, save and quit.

Re: Europe's new front in the browser battle
You are right, I was using figures pulled from my memory. But I am not off by much! Your source claims the top 1% paid a staggering 40.4% of ALL taxes! As you go down the number grows. The top 10% pay most of the taxes. This is EXACTLY what I am saying! That doesn't sound fair at all. In fact, I am...

I always thought that noob was just short for newbie...
Anyway, some programmers used to refer to their users as idiots at one stage. Perhaps they still do. Being called a newbie or n00b is much better, in my opinion.

Re: apt-cacher-ng configuration
I've been using apt-cacher (not -ng) for almost as long as I've had Mint 7 installed, and it has been well worth it for me. Can't wait to try out apt-cacher-ng with Mint 8. I believe that apt-cacher-ng is better than apt-cacher. Apt-Cacher NG is a caching HTTP download proxy for software packages, p...

Re: Is Linux 'anti-capitalist' and is this a bad thing?
I think that Linux is much more "free-market" than having a few monopolies control when/where/what/how the world uses their computers and other electronic equipment. If the current system is considered to be capitalistic, then it is wrong, imo. If bullying your way to the top and "ext...

Re: 5 Ways the Linux Desktop shoots itself in the foot
I think that Linux should be taught to little children at school. That will ensure that Linux becomes second nature (like Windows)... the rest will follow. Why do some people believe that, because Linux is not mainstream, children will be at a disadvantage when using it instead? I thought that Windo...

You have to admit, though, that lots of GTK applications use Edit > Preferences. Maybe Mozilla were trying to be more compatible?altair4 wrote:Mozilla decided to move things around in the linux version just to confuse people.

There's no guarantee that when security vulnerabilities are discovered, an update will be created. Users are on their own. In Windows, there is no guarantee that a vulnerability will be revealed or patched in a timely fashion. Crackers just love the Wednesday that follows "Patch Tuesday"....

I agree that trolls should not be fed and it is probably silly to go on crusades to try and convert others...... but, at the same time, I'm glad that there are a few "fundamentalists" out there that fight battles for us, the average users. The battles I'm talking about are things like sett...
