Blank Screen after login (SOLVED)

Hi everyone, I've been using LinuxMint 17.3 "Rosa" since it came out, everything going fine. Until now. When I read today that support for 17.3 was ending now, I considered the upgrade. My Update Manager indicated to update the "apt" package, although there was a warning that it was not a secure upd...

Re: App Request: Speedtest-Cli

Thanks everyone for the help. I followed Flemur's advice (greerd's suggestion worked too) and it works fine that way. My version of LinuxMint is a bit older, 17.03 Rosa, maybe that's why I couldn't find it..? (fwiw, on another Debian-based distro that I use (Antix) I found speedtest-cli in the repos...

App Request: Speedtest-Cli

Hi all, just a quick note to make a request to add Speedtest-Cli to the LinuxMint repos. It's a very useful tool to test Internet connections without having to deal with Flash-addvert-laden websites. ;) https://github.com/sivel/speedtest-cli Thanks for your consideration.. and for LinuxMint! brian

Re: Screen resolution issue

VIA graphics..... almost as bad as SiS graphics, unfortunately. Next time you buy a laptop, make sure it has either Intel or Nvidia for graphics. I advise to turn off visual effects (compositing) in Xfce: https://sites.google.com/site/easylinuxtipsproject/3#TOC-Cinnamon-Mate-and-Xfce:-turn-off-all-...

Screen resolution issue

Hi all, first off, kudos to Linux Mint 17.3!! I'm impressed at how complete it is; even the printer set-up was automatic and flawless! The reason I'm writing is just to mention an issue I had with this new installation, where, when I went to try a different screen resolution, when I activated the ne...

Re: Limited screen resolution options

Ok, I re-installed using the "Maya" release (32-bit, xfce) and I'm finding that many repositories are not responding. So some updates are giving errors. What should I change them to? Are there new repos I should include?

Re: Limited screen resolution options

I tried installing the xserver-xorg-video-sis file and I get a warning that there are 2 dependencies unavailable:

- xorg-video-abi-sis

- xserver-xorg-core >=2:1.14.99.902

Any suggestions?

I'm currently not able to use my friend's pc to check the stats, but I hope to do it in the near future. What information should I be looking for?

Limited screen resolution options

Hi all, I was happy to assist a friend in installing Linux Mint 17.3 xfce version, 32-bit on his older Acer laptop. All seems to work well, except that the only screen resolution is the 640 size, which might be ok, except that many apps have windows that are hard if not impossible to access complete...

Re: Re: Webcam image vertical flip

There is no "lib32" in my user directory either. lib32 is there on 64-bit systems. If yours is 32-bit, try the same command with just lib instead of lib32. I found the right file, I had to use this: export LIBV4LCONTROL_FLAGS=2 && LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype But th...

Re: Webcam image vertical flip

This command helps to flip the camera in Skype when typed in Terminal: export LIBV4LCONTROL_FLAGS=2 && LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib32/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype So the latest question is how to make it work for all software and execute automatically? I didn't get any results with this command. There is no "...

It doesn't open, and I can't get into Synaptic either since when I close the warning message it closes.

Ps. the update of the version I had installed didn't end well. It read, "too many errors." :(
