Re: How come so few users?

It must be because of users like me. I am a new Linux user but I have a theory about what the situation is. One person installs Linux and signs up to a forum (Say Ubuntu forums). Then he starts to get tired of Ubuntu and switches to Mint. He doesn't see any reason to sign up to here because he think...

i have the same problem. One time the mint-menu is completely disappeared, the next time it is the date/clocktime or soundapplet. And, everytime the arrangement of the application on the panel keep changing. This is really annoying. Is there any solution? Exactly same stuff happened to me in the la...

Re: Mint install fails to install packages

I have solved it. The problem was that the Policykit Authentication Agent, which should be in startup application and enabled, has the wrong command line. It should be: /usr/lib/policykit-1-gnome/polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1 That solved it for me, and I have my first software from the softwa...

Re: Cloning LM 11 on 10 computers

Install from Clone to new comp[/color] 7. now to install on new computer, run Live CD, ensure hard disk is unallocated or just format it. Then add the first partition with SWAP with the size you determined. gparted will assign SWAP to /dev/sda1, remember I do this to illustrate and putting SWAP fir...

Re: Alsa drivers and my MIDI love

The command to find what sound devices are available to you is "aplay -l" (l = lower case L). You did not give any information as to which sound device was working previously. Check the BIOS to ensure that sound is enabled. For sound problems see: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshoot...

Re: Mint Backup Questions - To Avoid Downloading Again

Hi wayne128, thank you for your answer! Now I have some more questions :) How do you restore the partition you cloned? And how the process goes? I mean, if I just copied the partition, it wouldn't boot I guess. There should be some more extra steps, considering that I use windows too. At the moment,...

Re: Mint Backup Questions - To Avoid Downloading Again

Hey, I am not sure where they are downloaded. So, I can't backup them now :) And, I think they don't include dependencies in the package. This looks like a potential problem in the future when I try to install using my backups which I did manually. Do the package managers download and install depend...

Re: How To: Remove PulseAudio & replace it with ALSA (Mint 1

Oh man, I wish I have seen this guide before I tried to install ALSA and mess up my sound! I already asked a question about that, I couldn't get an answer in time and I had to use the sound, so I reinstalled the OS. I am going to try this later on Mint 11, because I just reinstalled everything and t...

Alsa drivers and my MIDI love

Hi, I needed to use MIDI for a Guitar Pro like application and I learnt that I could enable it by installing Alsa drivers (alsa-project.org). So, I downloaded them and tried to install. In its readme files, it tells that you need ncurses. So, I found it and installed it successfully. But the ./confi...

Re: Mint Backup Questions - To Avoid Downloading Again

 Good work! Man, I was about to cry. Out of sudden, it stopped working. It was like it is saying "I have too many problems, I am committing a suicide". I begged, but no, died. Then I tried to reanimate it. In medicine, there is a rule; Try to save a man's life as long as your breath, your ...

Re: Mint Backup Questions - To Avoid Downloading Again

I wanted to thank you guys once again. My problem was a hard disk and mainboard related problem. It died yesterday, just after I asked you that question lol. I disassembled the whole PC. Disassembled the PSU too and cleaned and checked the connections and rebuilt it. Now, it works flawlessly :) And ...

Re: Mint Backup Questions - To Avoid Downloading Again

Thank you Vincent. Came to help as always :) I think I could backup my installed applications as an ISO. I saw that it backed up Mint updates too. Does that have a potential to cause problems? And, assume that it only backed up my installed apps and left the Mint updates, would these applications be...

Re: Mint Backup Questions - To Avoid Downloading Again

Well, while waiting for an answer, I found out that APTonCD seems like it can do what I want.
So, does this app save the application datas too? I don't want it to save the user datas, only the applications.

Mint Backup Questions - To Avoid Downloading Again

Hi, I have been having problems with my PC on both Windows and Linux. And Windows crashed and Linux isn't stable. I am going to wipe all the disk and reinstall both Linux and Windows. The thing is that, I have a slow internet connection which I share with my friends. So, it would take years to downl...

Re: Resizing disk: / point. Is it possible?

I wasn't aware that I could have only one :) Also, I wasn't aware that I allocated the extra space from the other partitions instead of the extended partition. Now, I am waiting for it to allocate another 18 GB and I have been waiting for 40 minutes, it says 1 hour to go. I am gonna report back.
