Your processor is a dual core that was introduced in the 4th quarter of 2008 with a base frequency of 1.40 GHz (though other specs I've seen say your machine runs at 1.6 GHz .)

You may want to try running a lighter version of Mint, such as MATE or Xfce instead of Cinnamon to see if that helps.

I haven't written any scripts for any platforms for about 30 years so I'm glad you were able to figure it out!

I've seen ways to auto start programs when first booting, but I'm not familiar with a way to have a another program start when starting a separate one, though it seems it could likely be done with a script
