Critcial bug of konsole in KDE5
the closed konsole window will cause a residue console process 100% for one CPU core. How to repeat: open system activity, search konsole. You will see nothing there. start a konsole window. you can see the new process of konsole. Close that window, the konsole window disappear but the konsole proce...

Re: Preparing for Mint to drop the KDE distro
KDE5 is not usable anyway. The KDE dev team also very stubborn. So I think this decision is unfortunate but wise. Now I just move to the Cinnamon DE. Though it looks primitive, but at least mostly usable. I also checked out ubuntu unity. It is quite nice but requires too much resource.

even `ls` is 50 times slower than KDE4. This might be the baloo, but ls took 1 mins to show 1 line result is too much.

the software source list does not contain all valid mirrors. It only has American mirrors and partial EU mirrors, all other mirrors are missing.

Re: ibus on KDE login - IME Input Method Editor
simple answer: please avoid KDE + ibus in this case. They just do not want to work together. They have very long conflict history. There is always something broken when you try to use ibus in KDE. Please use FCITX, which works nicely in KDE and that is why this project is still active for so long ti...

Re: Plasmashell high CPU bug #356479
Simple answer: KDE5 has been released when it is still in alpha-test state :p Simple solution: Avoid KDE5 longer version: 2) I'm copying a file. That's it. Did you try to turn off the animation at all? I never use desktop effect at all, doubt many people use it either. This may be a GL related probl...

The process for the file protocol died unexpectedly.
On Mint18 KDE live CD.
when right-click menu -> `open dolphin as root`. I usually get an error message that says "The process for the file protocol died unexpectedly."
I cannot even change wallpaper for different desktops?!

Re: How best to copy 17.1's home folder into a new 17.3?
No need to copy at all. The easiest way, you need to create a user with same previous user ID. Then just link the /home/userID to your old home folder. If you have to create a different userID with whatever reason, you just chown to change the ownership of the old home folder.

Re: Linux Mint 18 KDE to use what version of KDE?
KDE5 and plasma5 is real disaster! Please DONOT include this. If the KDE5 is the only maintained version I'll have to consider leaving KDE. I've been using KDE since 90's. I had never seen such disappointed `upgrade`like this.

Re: does fresh upgrade preserve system settings?
Well, I did a simple test in VM. The `fresh upgrade` seems do not preserve any system settings. Things as :i386 packages are not installed. So finally, in real PC, I just remove texlive and video driver, then change all ubuntu repos manually to trusty, mint repo to rebecca. After performing a dist-u...

Re: does fresh upgrade preserve system settings?
Even if you succeed (not by any means a certainty), if/when you have issues in the future, how will you know that they weren't caused by this non-recommended upgrade path? I have had the best luck - and the least stress - by copying everything I want to preserve, and spending an evening writing (in...

Re: does fresh upgrade preserve system settings?
do you have a separate /home partition - or not?. if so - use the installer to erase the / root partition, whilst preserving /home < NOFormat > - otherwise, you will have to perform a clean installation - after you BackUp - that is . .. Thanks for the suggestion. I do have separated home. But prese...
