MPlayer connecting to the internet unnessicarily.

Hi. Well I've never had MPlayer work at all in GUI form so I always uninstall and install mplayer-nogui, anyway I recently noticed that when my modem was off and I tried to play an .mp3 through mplayer it wouldn't work, but once connected it would work. So basically in order to use MPlayer (I haven'...

Repos.

Does it matter which order repos are listed in sources.list? For example if the same version of a package is found in two different repos which does it download from? The first or the last listed?

Also, how does one go about setting up their own repo?

Another thing to consider is using Opera (Windows version) in Wine.

Re: Powerusers thoughts after few mint installations

Admin > Login Window > Security > Enable Auto Login But I do personally think by default it should be enabled since I find it useless. And I would like to be able to have root auto login too. But some people won't like auto login, so an easy compromise is at the very first boot of a mint installatio...

I like Linux Mint. Mint by itself sounds stupid.

Re: OpenLaszlo.deb?

Linux Mint is the wrong forum or Software & Applications is the wrong forum? And how so?

I am well aware of removed. I frequent there daily. And no, it isn't there. I already checked.

3D hardware acceleration.

Well the entire time I've been using Linux I've never been able to play most of the Linux games. There's either one problem or another. But it seems to do a lot with 3D hardware acceleration. I install the driver for my ATI Radeon X300 (xorg-driver-fglrx) and I can enable the Extra Visual Effects no...

Question regarding voice talk & webcam in Pidgin.

Basically, is it possible? I haven't tried webcam yet but my friend was on MSN and tried to start a voice chat but nothing was popping up on my end. So I'm wondering is it just not possible or do I have to install something?

Re: Opera Flash and Mint 4 Xfce

Opera has officially stated that Flash doesn't work with Opera (Linux version), it's an Opera flaw which will be fixed in version 9.50, but since Opera is only currently up to version 9.26 they have a 9.50 Beta available which works with Flash, but be warned it crashes a lot.

What is the command to make a program the default?

I know that you can right-click a file and select properties and open-with and choose the default program for that filetype, but I'm wondering how one would do it using the terminal. For example; say I wanted to make VLC Media Player the default program for .mpg, .avi, .wmv, etc. How would one do it?

Re: Possible Security Flaw

When I try a sudo command and press ctrl+c instead of entering my password it gives me:

Code: Select all

sudo: pam_authenticate: Conversation error
I tried over and over, same resault.

They're extremely similar, yet with certain differences. I was using Ubuntu since 7.04 and have switched to Mint and prefer Mint.

Re: Having trouble compiling.

Well I have a freshly installed and updated Daryna, so I don't know why it isn't there if it's supposed to be. Also, I'm using GPicView as an example. I've tried compiling things before on Ubuntu and it's never worked, so I'm trying to figure out why.

Re: Having trouble compiling.

Right now I am trying to compile GPicView 0.1.9. ./configure outputs: checking for a BSD-compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c checking whether build environment is sane... yes checking for a thread-safe mkdir -p... /bin/mkdir -p checking for gawk... no checking for mawk... mawk checking whether...
