Re: xfburn 0.5.5 upgrade and disk sizes supported

tried to go from 0.5.4 to 0.5.5 on LM18 32-bit using the deb package suggested by Pjotr and received :

" Dependency is not satisfiable: libburn4 (>=1.4.8) "

Checking the installed version in software manager shows installed libburn4 version of 1.4.2.pl01-1

Re: Trouble with recent rsyslog sw version 5.8.6

Caused by: r592: IRQ: DMA error Supposedly, something that has to do with flaky driver trying to distinguish between USB stick vs. Ricoh SD card reader, or something like that. This causes to dump lots of info to syslog and the file grows huge quickly. Number of newer Linux kernels seem to have this...

Trouble with recent rsyslog sw version 5.8.6

Mint 13 Maya 64-bit Mate Recently, my CPU utilization went to 100% on both of my CPUs most of the time. Syslog file is now flooded by low level kernel messages, and takes up GigaBytes instead of 100kB or so, as with previous rsyslog sw version. (I was able to eliminate any hw related issues as a cul...

Re: Why mediubuntu repositories doesn't work in MAYA

Ok, removing the source takes care of it.
I would submit that developers could have been made aware of the server being obsoleted, and updated the sw sources configuration so that no one gets a coronary when the medibuntu errors pop up. :D

Could not launch Application

LM13-64bit-Mate I installed Python recently but it will not start from the menu. It runs ok manually from mate-terminal. Popup error says: Could not launch 'Python (v2.7)' Failed to execute child process "xterm" (No such file or directory) I found that somebody fixed this by either 1) setting up "si...

Re: Mint Menu Button Missing LM13 Mate 64bit

Update.
I did some poking around, and noticed that my mintMenu folder was missing under /usr/lib/linuxmint/.
I have 2HD system with same LM13 on both, so I just copied the folder over.
It did nothing.

Mint Menu Button Missing LM13 Mate 64bit

LM13 Maya 64 bit MATE I had to reinstall MATE desktop because my desktop had gone black after attempting to remove Samba. Mate desktop came back OK but I am missing the original Mate menu cogged wheel button. I am not sure if it is due to a update bug (shown here [url]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=...

How to remove Samba/SMB and related services safely

First of all, is there a benefit to removal of this if you don't need it (bootup speedup, security etc.) ? I do not want to do any file or printer sharing over network, so I would like to remove Samba, smb etc. I do need wireless, and perhaps netbios (not sure) to connect to internet. When I removed...

Re: Black screen after samba removal

I checked the Mate configuration files in /etc against the ones in my other Maya install, a...

[SOLVED] Black screen after samba removal

I decided to remove samba, python-smbc, libwbclient0, samba-common and samba-common-bin (used sw manager for removal), thinking that I did not need them. Now when I restart the laptop, I get black screen (mouse pointer can be moved around), no Mate desktop, and the only way that I can think of to ge...

Re: Maya Problem - cannot access desktop items

Ok, so .gvfs is a gnome virtual file system, and it is a hidden directory under the user's directory, and it appears to be empty. Even when doing sudo chmod 755, it will not set write permission on it, making it user-read,execute only, and no permissions else. The owner is shown to be user, not root...

Re: Maya Problem - cannot access desktop items

In the meantime, I was able to change permissions on directories to 755 and files to 644.
All is back to normal now, except that during chmod file and directory, I received following

find: `/home/user1/.gvfs': Permission denied

What the heck is .gvfs, and is this a problem ?

Thanks

Re: Grub Screen After Update

Sorry about the confusion, the file name was fine, I just did not write it down, so I was not sure about the name. It is all about grub 1 and grub 2 (mint 10 and 13) differences. Drive mapping does not quite agree. I recalled I had this issue before and found my own thread dealing with this. Anyway ...
