Re: dialup gnome-ppp

It is a bug in Gutsy Gnome-ppp. Uninstall gnome-ppp. Download this patched deb for Gutsy 32bit http://launchpadlibrarian.net/10692409/gnome-pppfixedforgutsy_0.3.24-1_i386.deb Install the patched version. Run "sudo wvdialconf" in a terminal, and gnome-ppp should connect and dock. I got mine working ...

Re: Panel editting

I think you'll find the mint panel is nicer, but if you wanted to you could make it identical to gutsy. First you could change your theme to Ubuntu's theme, then you could remove Linux Mint Menu and add Main Menu, might need a few other tweaks and you'd be there.

Re: Any other distros to recommend?

I will repeat what a few have said already and recommend Debian Etch.. I'm sure there is going to be a rather easy solution to the problem you are having with your HD; I just hope you find it sooner rather than later. There's the jumper solution but my hdd is already set in Single mode so no, it do...

Re: I miss Add/Remove Applications

I don't see why it should be there by default.. Synaptic is more functional and it has about the same ease of use. If you want it, somebody has posted the command for it.

So it will change but is harder to solve than expected
Glad to hear it's been noted. Cheers.

Is everyone who has noticed this bug been using FF?
Maybe someone could test with IE, Opera etc. to see :)

Yeah, it's nice if these things go with user prefs rather than a standard which mightn't suit everyone.

Re: Default Panel (HELP)

Ah yess thank you very much that's exactly what I was looking for. A second question though is how could I change the way different things like the menu button hold a background while the rest is transparent or is that a lost cause for me? No worries, glad to help. I do not know how you would go ab...

I like this idea a lot.. I would be pleased even if it could just generate a text file with a list of what I've installed additionally and updated. Would save time and effort when it comes to making a fresh install for a new version.

Re: Tabbed desktop?

Functionality wise I can't see any reason not to just use the workspace switcher (1 click, no fuss and it's minimalist), but I do like this idea for visually improving the function.

Re: Windows Button = Menu

There's not much "fiddling" needed. Open "Control Center", select "Keyboard Shortcuts", in the "Desktop" section edit the "Show the Panel Menu" to use the "Windows (Super-L) key. As you say, it's easy to do.. But I think it would be a nice custom feature. Keyboard Shortcuts application should be im...

I think there should be UN intervention, this problem is as blatant as the Sudanese crisis and yet the major UN members just sit back and enjoy the festive season..

Wiped my HDD and let FC4 take over, experienced a number of problems but since I had wiped doze I was forced to learn how to resolve them rather than running back to doze.. Was a good experience.
