Re: Linux Mint 17.1 “Rebecca” Xfce RC released!

Hi, Finally got around to trying out the Compiz window manager in the RC. The switch from XFCE went ok, but then neither the Settings/Window Manager or Window Tweaks would respond; the system just hung up. The Settings/Desktop panel opened up, but the switch back to XFCE would not work, I was stuck ...

Re: Mass Market Customer Expectations

Chaps/Chapesses, Whilst the discussions have merit in their own right, I was actually looking for any feedback from "Joe Average" users, on the fringes of our community, rather than ourselves. We already like our Mint flavours just the way they are; that's why we chose them for our own use originall...

Mass Market Customer Expectations

I read an article recently in which a reviewer stated that they would be uncomfortable just loading up Linux for their parents and leaving them to it. As someone who has done just that, I can agree. I've put Mint on several laptops for family and friends over the last 6 months and found their expect...

Re: What about tablet powered by Linux Mint?

Tablets running a Linux OS do already exist; WeTab from 4ttitoo in Munich running a Meego respin on a Intel Atom N450 pltform, and now the Vivaldi which is runnning KDE's Plasma 3 on an ARM platform. The real issue for me is integrating the Mint desktop and these mobile devices so they work together...

Re: AL+TAB in fullscreen apps

I've got the very cleaver Cover-Flow-Alt-Tab extension installed which does a great job of switching between open applications, even those in full-screen mode. It even drops you back into full-screen if you cycle all the way around too ! Grab it from the cinnamon-spices page and give it a try. There...

It's a valid sugestion.
Could you give us some more detil about the context in which you need this functionality so we understand how you are using your system please ?
It would help build a clearer picture of your proposal.

Re: Refine default theme and fonts

It's a fair observation. Whilst the splash screen is an excellent piece of artwork/graphic design, it has been with us for quite a few releases now. I also agree that first impressions do count, and compared to some of the "alternatives" we do look a little pale and pasty when we first boot up. Coul...

Re: home media devices

Streaming media is not a function of the operating system or desktop you choose to run, but the application software you install. I'm not a KDE user, so I can only refer to what I know of under Cinnamon (Gnome); applications such as VLC will handle streamed media, along with a host of other packages...

Re: A Linux Ecosystem ?

So, no-one else has noticed that we have had WeTab and Vivaldi tablets, Nokia N9/00 and Jolla Mobiles none of which want to talk to my Mint desktop ?

A Linux Ecosystem ?

Is there an opportunity for Mint to become the centrepiece of an alternative ecosystem based on linux products ? By collaborating with a few key project teams to integrate their highly capable products, could an exceptional user experience be created ? Is it possible to exploit the current bluetooth...

Re: Linux Mint 12 "Lisa" released!

As per my earlier note under the RC release, I have to report that I've reverted back to LM11 for now. Whilst I firmly believe that Gnome 3 will become a very special desktop in the near future, it is at present unstable under LM12 with some key applications and integration with existing hardware. I...

Re: Linux Mint 12 "Lisa" RC released!

It is with much regret that I have to advise that I've reverted back to LM11. Whilst I firmly believe Gnome 3 will become a very VERY special desktop, it is at the moment under LM12 too unstable with some of the basic applications and hardware. (In my case the webcam is not recognised and Banshee ca...

Re: Mint Upgrade instructions/how to

Unfortunately I still get the following message... The release of Linux Mint 12 is generating a lot of traffic. To ensure the server remains responsive, some of the modules of the community site are down during the release. In the long term, we'll react to the growth in our user base with the purcha...

Mint Upgrade instructions/how to <SOLVED>

Could someone help us novices, whilst the Community server is down, by posting the upgrade instructions from one release of Mint to the next, either here or on the Tutorials/How to forum please.
Many thanks in advance

Re: Linux Mint 12 "Lisa" released!

As I only came to Linux with Mint11, could someone provide the "upgrade" instructions to allow me to move to LM12 which are currently hiding behind the off-line community server at present down for maintenance, please.
Many thanks
