Enable Wireless in Mint 19

I just installed Mint 19 on my Dell Latitude E6540, and while I was booted from the installation flash drive the wireless worked perfectly, but after booting the freshly installed system, and even after applying all the post-installation updates, the wireless is not enabled. How can that be, since i...

Re: Upgrading to Evolution 3.24

Well, now that I'm running Debian Testing (with the Cinammon desktop), It comes with Evolution 3.26.2, which is very nice. It's been three months since I switched to Debian from Mint, and it's been very stable and very fast. I have no complaints.

Re: Distorted Text When Scrolling

Well, I finally found a solution. For other reasons I switched from Linux Mint 18.2 to Debian 9.1, and discovered that the screen tearing problem is gone. I don't know what the key factor is, but it's a great relief.

Re: Upgrading to Evolution 3.24

Thanks, I was afraid of that. I'd just like to enjoy all the improvements and bug fixes since version 3.18 and not have to wait for a year or so before Mint/Cinnamon is based on Gnome 3.24.

Upgrading to Evolution 3.24

Is it likely to cause trouble in Mint 18.2 Cinnamon if I add the gnome3-staging PPA long enough to update Evolution from version 3.18 to version 3.24?

Re: Distorted Text When Scrolling

I don't think 3D acceleration is an option when the graphics hardware accelerator is disabled, as is the case with these settings.

Re: Distorted Text When Scrolling

Thank you for this suggestion. That fixed the problem of distorted text in LibreOffice, but when I log in I get a warning that Cinnamon is now running without graphics hardware support. So is this the only way to fix the problem? Is the loss of graphics hardware acceleration the inevitable cost of c...

Re: Distorted Text When Scrolling

Thanks for the suggestion, but after following those instructions there was still no improvement. Is this behavior what is known as "screen tearing"? I have read many posts on various forums about screen tearing, and have yet to learn of a solution that works for Linux Mint 18.2 Cinnamon. I hate to ...

Distorted Text When Scrolling

I am running Linux Mint 18.2, Cinnamon Edition. Often, when scrolling through a document from paragraph to paragraph (using Ctrl-DownArrow), the text is distorted as in the attached screenshot. There are several bug reports in the LibreOffice Bugzilla site that seem to be describing this problem, bu...

Recoll not indexing .odt files

How can I get recoll to index .odt files? I've used recoll for years, and it has always worked for .odt files, but since I did a fresh install of Linux Mint (Cinnamon) 18.1, it is no longer finding .odt files.

Re: Evolution Indicator in System Tray

Well, I gave up on getting the indicator to appear in the system tray in Mate, and reverted to Cinnamon, in which the indicator works. However, I still have had no success in getting Evolution to minimize to the system tray. Surely this must be possible, but how?

Evolution Indicator in System Tray

What do I have to do to get Evolution to minimize to the system tray and give an indication of the number of unread messages in the Inbox? I've already installed the evolution-indicator plugin, to no obvious effect. I'm running Linux Mint 18.1 Mate Edition, and the latest Evolution 3.18.5.2.

Re: Excessive Disk Activity

Solved. It was the recoll indexer, which is odd because I've used recoll for years and never experienced this kind of takeover.
