Re: LM 15 Mate screensaver starts at 5 minutes regardless

Another culprit in having an unwanted screensaver blank your screen is the built in screensaver of your monitor in you have an "Energy Star" monitor, and most modern monitors are. You can kill this with: xset -dpms I have that command and: xset s off both in my Startup Applications. This i...

Re: Themes for mate

If you google it you can find Clearlooks with a Cherry on Top.

I like it too, and am currently using it in LM14 Mate.

I think I used Ubuntu Tweak to select it after installing it.

Re: Printing in Linux Mint 14

The next suggestion I have is to check the connection to the printer? Could be a bad cable.

Try a program named devede. It's in the repositories. Gives you a lot more control over the final product.

Re: I can't copy and paste files due to permissions

When you enter sudo mode, you stay in sudo mode for 5 minutes, you can exit this by running the command

Code: Select all

sudo -K

This will take you out of sudo mode.

Re: Printing in Linux Mint 14

Sounds like a driver issue. Open the CUPS interface at localhost:631 in your browser and modify the printer to use a different driver than the one you are currently using if additional drivers are listed. Try them all until you get one that works. If no additional drivers are available you may have ...

Re: I can't copy and paste files due to permissions

Yep. That will open your file manager with elevated (sudo) privileges. One of the first things I do with a new distro installed, is create a menu item labeled "Root File Manager" with the above command. Of course change it to open your file manager, in my case I am running Mate, so the com...

Re: On the verge of giving up.

I recently had some problems with unsatisfied dependencies when Installing Teamviewer 64 bit on Nadia Mate. However it was fixed a couple of days later after running updates to my system, then it installed fine and works fine. Sometimes this happens if the mirror you are using for your updates is be...

Re: Thunderbird difficulty with sending photos

I find it hard to believe that we're the only ones that find this a problem. Kindest Regards Laidback I don't find it to be a problem because I never send emails with photos embedded. I always upload the photos to one of the free image hosting sites and put a link to the photo in the email. I don't...

Re: Static IP Settings Fail [SOLVED}

Instead of running ifup try running

Code: Select all

sudo service networking restart

and that would have restarted the network with the settings you made in the interfaces file without having to reboot.

Re: Before I Buy A Wireless Epson Printer

I have two wireless network printers, a HP Officejet Pro 8000w and a Brother HL-2170w laser. Both were easy to setup with the CUPS interface and specifying the ipp address. I always set up my network printers with a fixed IP address which makes things easier and more reliable. Both printers work fla...

Re: List of support TV tuner card on Linux mint and How to

I have been watching TV on my PC for years with a Hauppauge PVR-150. I feed the card by composite cable from my Dish Network DVR Receiver. I use VLC for viewing. I use the following command to start VLC in TV viewing mode. /usr/bin/vlc pvr:// :pvr-device=/dev/video0 :pvr-channel=2 :live-caching=300 ...

Re: Broadcom BCM4311 wifi adapter disabled by boot to mint14

I have this problem every time I install a new distro or upgrade and exiting distro on my old laptop with a Broadcom device. Have to install the B43 drivers. Hard to get a wired connection, but luckily I have a Linksys WUSB 100 USB wireless device which works in Linux out of the box. I plug this in ...

I have found ubuntu-builder to be much more user friendly and it works on Mint. It includes Synaptic to allow you choose what programs you want to remove or add from a familiar interface.
