Re: Linux Raid Drive that is 4tb reports 2tb
Sorry I cannot give the exact command for mdadm but read the man page or do a Google search for instructions on expanding/growing the RAID device.

Re: TV Card
I have used MythTV for years but I doubt you are wanting to go down that path with your laptop. I would also refer to the MythTV wiki for supported tuner info.

Your NAS is *nix so actually you have 2 on your LAN. NFS seems to be faster for me besides using ssh/scp.HarryZ wrote:This is the only *nix machine on my network. Why does this matter?kwisher wrote:[... +1 for NFS if you are all *nix on your LAN.

Re: Best way to replace my wife's computer without losing her current setup?
You can also just move the existing hard drive to the new PC if it is still in good health. Only issue to be aware of if doing this is if you are using any non-free video drivers on the original PC and the new PC does not have the same Mfg. video card/system. Just to be safe you can remove the non-f...

Re: teamviewer 9 problem
Since the OP purchased ver. 9 he can only install ver.9 on client PC's as it is not forward compatible. I tried searching for ver.9 deb file on their site and it looks like he will need to contact their support to get this older version if he wishes to continue using it or pay for a new version to l...

Re: LVM raid5_ls growing issue
Thanks for your reply and I'm sorry for my mistake, I'm new on the forum. From what I know system-config-lvm does not recognize lvm RAID elements and from what I say in my previous post there are a raid5_ls lvm configuration and anyway I'm not familiar with the GUI tools I prefer using the shell co...

PLEASE use the Code wrapper when posting large contents of text!!!
First of all, did you physically change the Raid by adding new disks or are you just needing to resize LVM's? A GUI LVM app can be installed called system-config-lvm and might help you with your issue.

Re: Won't boot - MDADM RAID 5 w/LVM
You should look into setting up email notifications and also smartmon-tools for drive issue reporting. When a drive fails there is no way for the system to report it to you.
I also do not suggest booting from a software Raid, instead I would add a separate drive for the O/S.

Re: making DVDs - DeVeDe, Bombono and DVDStyler?
I use DeVeDe for the rare times I need to create DVD's for family & friends. It does not have any video editing features. For that I use OpenShot to edit & export the video to use in DeVeDe. You will find Linux software usually concentrates on one function and it will usually take multiple a...

Sorry, I am not familiar with any purchased NAS devices for this reason of depending on proprietary software and no Linux support. I just make my own using multiple drives with a spare PC.

Re: software for archiving CD and DVD collection
For cross-platform compatibility, music would need to be ripped in mp3 format. Make sure you rip with the highest quality setting. For video DVD ripping I would suggest the following. If you have a large DVD library I would use Brasero or K3B to make an ISO image of each disk. The ISO files can be l...

Re: Netgear Router Exploit warning
I always encourage people to purchase a router that can be flashed with OpenSource firmware for this exact reason. If you want to take the next step in LAN security you should investigate building your own router/firewall using an Opensource distro built for this purpose such as ipFire or pfSense.

Re: MythTV setup and Configuration for V0.28.0
So is the storage drive already setup to automount in fstab? I'm assuming not. 1) What exact distribution are you using? I would suggest Xubuntu 16.04 LTS. 2) What tuner(s) are you using? If they are PCI then from a term do: lspci < post the output back here, only the line for your tuner. If it is a...

Re: Alternate Options to MythTV
I would suggest installing the package "mythbuntu-control-centre" (yes that is spelled correctly) to help with the initial setup. Also add the mythbuntu ppa so you are on the newest version.
I am more than happy to help you with MythTV offline or in another thread.

Re: Alternate Options to MythTV
I will have to agree my first MythTV install was very painfull, took a few times to figure it all out. That was many years ago, iirc, I installed on Mint-5. It is well worth the trouble once you have it installed and configured correctly.

Re: What is your backup strategy for servers/desktops/laptops?
Isn't S3 a little expensive for backups compared e.g. to Crashplan and similar? Wouldn't know, I've never used crashplan. https://aws.amazon.com/s3/pricing/ Crashplan charges a fixed amount each month. I've tried to use S3 in the past for the desktop as well but the bill made me cry :D CrashPlan is...
