Re: Can you upgrade (almost) entire PC without reinstalling?
I ever change HDD (mint installed) to another PC and boot from it, and it work just fine, I think, if you use default kernel, (and use the same GPU) the old system will works on new machine On windows OS, if you change board, you have to reinstall that board driver, but on Linux, usually it Just Wor...

Re: How do I create an image of my system on a thumbdrive?
When I try to copy my installation (with my apps, driver installed) to another pc/laptop, I use remastersys to make the ISO file of my mint installation. Its a great software for system backup.

Re: Driver ATI Hybrid Notebook
I don't really sure that installing the driver will make the laptop works like on Windows (using intel for low - ati on high), but you can install the driver easily using synaptic package manager, just look for package called fglrx and install it

Re: Can't connect to repositories, but connection works
Your sources.list seems OK, so I think it's about the simultaneous run of apt. Have you try to just use 1 program to update/install/upgrade? I'd like to suggest to close the mintupdate, open synaptic package manager, hit the reload, and it should be working (as long as you don't have gpkg, gdebi, or...

woops, seems like startupmanager is banned on ubuntu based (it works just fine here on my LMDE) idk why its not working on yours, but thats what I do and its work (sorry, its not helping). Re: Need to change the boot order to linux mint 14 first
on my grub customizer, all I need to do is set the OS to the top of the OS list (using the up arrow on the toolbar) and hit save (as far as I remember). If you want, you can also click the install to MBR button to make sure your changes a saved. If you want more simple GUI, maybe you can try startup...

[SOLVED] auto fsck on boot, not auto anymore
Hi, I'm using LMDE KDE with repo set to Debian Sid (and experimental), fully upgraded. I have separate / and /home. The problem is, my / is regularly check by fsck, but not with my /home. I've set the interval somewhere (forget) but I remember change the value to 60 boot (for my /home). my / is on s...

Yep, removing the universe, save the file, then sudo apt-get update / reload using synaptic.old & slow wrote: Could the answer be as simple as deleting the "universe" in the first two lines?
As you can see here, there's only main upstream import backport and romeo, there's no universe

Re: Need help getting AMD display drivers working
how do you install the fglrx driver? have you try to install fglrx-legacy (look on synaptic)? It's for Radeon HD 2xxx - 4xxx series. CMIIW, on mint 14 there's 3 versions of fglrx: legacy, fglrx, and fglrx-update (I'm not using Mint main edition anymore, using LMDE right now) I think there's no need ...

it is safe to remove thunderbird, even if it want to remove some meta packages too (well, its only meta-package, so its OK to removed) These packages do not contain actual software, they simply depend on other packages to be installed. Metapakage allows entire sets of software to be installed by onl...

AFAIK, mintwriter works the same way as dd, so it wont create persistent file, it make your usb to be a cd. If you want to make persistent, use unetbootin instead

Re: Unable to install apps with Software Manager
have you try to install from terminal?
IF it works on terminal, then there's something wrong on software manager, but if it won't install it will give you the detailed error
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install supertuxkart
