Chromium - Your connection is not private

When visiting amazon.com in Chromium I get the following error. Your connection is not private Attackers might be trying to steal your information from amazon.com (for example, passwords, messages, or credit cards). NET::ERR_CERTIFICATE_TRANSPARENCY_REQUIRED No issue with Firefox, only Chromium. Onl...

Re: Error each time I use aptitude

All in the command line. No issues with the update manager. It does nothing negative but does irritate me.

This computer's been running for years. No idea if verified. Tried and failed doing it a few times before with other computers and so I'm guessing not.

Error each time I use aptitude

Whenever I use aptitude upgrade/install/etc I get the following error. Error: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus) It doesn't seem to affect anything other than creating this error message each and every time. Could anyone tell me w...

Re: Dirty Cow - LMDE Advice please

Did the GUI of apt-update in the update manager; the update manager said "Your system is up to date". I switched from my local mirror to the main server. Gosh a kernel update. That teaches me for using mirrors. 3.16.0-4-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.16.36-1+deb8u2 (2016-10-19) x86_64 GNU/Li...

Dirty Cow - LMDE Advice please

I've searched the internet high and low. I cannot find the answer to this question: Am I affected by Dirty Cow. I found one website giving lots of different Kernel numbers but none of those applied to LMDE. System is fully updated - says there's no more updates. I don't have a "Kernal Informati...

Re: Multiple Desktops - Panel Button Showing All Desktops

Yes, that is what my top bar menu looks like. My problem is actually I press ctrl-alt-right and it moves into workspace two but my panel still shows all the 'title bars' from workspace 1, which makes it very difficult to switch between applications as I keep jumping backwards and forward between wor...

Re: Multiple Desktops - Panel Button Showing All Desktops

Ok more pragmatic example, if I have Rhythmbox open playing Music, then generally speaking I don't really want to see it at all, just allow it to play in the background, so I'd like to move that onto workspace 2, but the way it's currently setup that's as good as having it on Workspace 1, just minim...

Re: Multiple Desktops - Panel Button Showing All Desktops

Ok, let's call them workspaces then (which appears to be their names  ). If I press ctrl+alt+right arrow it moves me to workspace 2. If I open up a terminal in workspace 2, then the application button stays in the panel even when I'm in workspace 1. I'd like to have the two work spaces very di...

Multiple Desktops - Panel Button Showing All Desktops

I'm just starting to use Multiple desktops which is quite a handy feature, no idea why I didn't try it before. I've got a slight problem as when I move a window to the next desktop, the 'button' stays in the task bar, so if I have multiple terminals open, then I accidentally find myself switching de...

Re: Disable OpenDNS

Just to add my voice of disappointment at this being slipped in. It prevents the use of the 'awesome bar' being used to search in Firefox. I thought some spyware had been installed at first but to discover it's built into Mint, very disappointed. I would be been fine if this was an opt in thing, but...

Re: Logging IP Address Changes

Hi, With a bit of digging, I found I can use crobtab to check my IP and write it to a file with the following. wget -q -O - checkip.dyndns.org|sed -e 's/.*Current IP Address: //' -e 's/<.*$//' > file.txt But this seems just keep overwriting the file rather than adding more information to it. How can...

Logging IP Address Changes

Hi all,

is there a way to log the IP address that my router has? I'm looking to see if I have a dynamic IP address, or a static IP address. I'd like to see if I can find the history of my IP address too. Does this forum keep a record of them somewhere?

Thanks :)

Re: Have My Own Email Server?

That depends on the sender's server configuration. Most will retry it a few times every so many hours, before finally giving up and returning a undeliverable message to the sender. It certainly sounds like this isn't totally beyond the reach of a 'home server' configuration then. Just need to find ...

Re: Have My Own Email Server?

What happens if I'm hosting my own email server and I get a power cut or my internet goes down as someone sends me an email? Does the sending server wait a little while to see if the receiving server comes back online or will it just send it without anything being there to receive it?
