Re: Resolution sudden stuck at 640 x 380

The xserver-xorg-videa-nouveau driver still left me in 640x380. I tried installing the nvidia-340 manually by downloading it from the the nvidia site; however, the result was the same Building initial module for 3.13.0-24-generic Error! Resolution sudden stuck at 640 x 380

I've been running Mint 17/Cinnamon successfully for several months on my Zareason/Nvidia latop. After a update yesterday, instead of 1920 x 1080, my screen resolution comes up at 640 x 380. After logging in I get a pop stating, Cinnamon has crashed. Do you want to restart it? Clicking Yes does not g...

Re: Mint 17 Nvidia GE8400 GS

I had the same problem after installing LM 17 on my laptop with an Nvidia GT 650M grapics card. I already have Windows 7 installed and after I installed LM 17 in the freespace (after using GParted to designate as ext4 logical partition and a linux-swap partition). I'm no expert, but this is what I d...

Re: Dual Boot: Can I install Win7 after Mint17

Here is the layout of my partitions as shown by GParted: Partition FileSystem Size Flags /dev/sda1 Fat32 512.00 Mig boot /dev/sda2 ext4 224.42 Gig /dev/sda3 linux-swap 7.97 Gig Does this still look ok in terms of installing Windows after shrinking /dev/sda2? Thanks, Kurt

Re: Dual Boot: Can I install Win7 after Mint17

Thanks DrHu. Do you agree with Incentive IC's comment?:
Grub so you will have to go into the live cd and put Grub back on Mbr which is very easy to do.

Re: Dual Boot: Can I install Win7 after Mint17

Thanks Incentive I.C. . I did find a video howto: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5LMoa1OK9Q
that shows how to install Windows on a pre-existing Linux machine, and then use Linux Secure Remix, http://sourceforge.net/projects/linux-secure/files/ burned to a USB, to put Grub back on the MBR.

Dual Boot: Can I install Win7 after Mint17

If you want to dual boot Win7 and LM17, is it necessary to first install Win7 and the LM17? Since I already have LM17 installed and customized the way I want it (not to mention having overcome the Black Screen of Death post installation caused by the default nouveau driver (and solved by following: ...

Code: Select all

# sudo nemo -q; nemo & disown
and now I have my desktop icons back, and I can right-click on the desktop, which also didn't work.

Where are Terminal preference in Mint 16?

I want to change font, background color, etc, of my Terminal window. But there is no longer a Preferences menu item. This is what a terminal now looks like

So how does one make these changes in Mint16/Cinnamon 2/0+?

Re: Dual boot already working. How to change partitin size

You should be careful to NOT use GParted to mess around with Win7 partitions, as it can result in filesystem corruption. That's good to know. But in my situation, unless Minitool Partition Wizard Boot CD could both shrink the extended partition which has the two logical partitions for Mint and Linu...

Re: Dual boot already working. How to change partitin size

Thanks for your reply. I shrank the extended partition, where I have Mint, leaving 50 GB of unallocated space before Mint. This is what Gparted shows now: Partition File System Label Size ------------------------------------------------------------------------ /dev/sda1 ntfs System Reserved 100 MB /...

Dual boot already working. How to change partitin size

I set up a dual boot configuration with Windows 7 and Mint. I first installed Windwos 7 and used its partition manager to allocate free space into which I installed Mint. Both OSes work fine. However, I realize now the Windows 7 partition is way too small. Should I use Gparted to change the partitio...
