Re: Why /etc/ubuntu_version is wrong?
Thanks Termy and mikeflan. It is likely a leftover from Mint 19 that should have been discarded. I erased the file after what you wrote because it is deceiving. When browsing the Internet, everyone writes to check the Ubuntu version with: cat /etc/os-release But: $ cat /etc/lsb-release DISTRIB_ID=Li...

[solved] Why /etc/ubuntu_version is wrong?
Hello, I am running Linux Mint 20.3 supposed to be based on Ubuntu 20.04. Running $ cat /etc/ubuntu_version 18.04 returns 18.04 instead of 20.04. Is it because I used mintupdate from Linux Mint 19 instead of carrying out a fresh installation? Should I manually replace the file content by 20.04? On t...

Re: How to change lightdm to mdm in MINT 19
Hello Karlchen, I have followed this thread from the beginning because I like the slide show mdm could provide on the login screen. I followed the links you posted but I could not find a way to produce a slide show with Lightdm. I could not even find a way to choose a random background from a list e...

Thanks kellerkindt. I got the same problem after upgrading from 18.3 to 19, and your solution worked for me too.

How to handle a repository with a missing file?
Hello, I use Cinelerra Goodguy version 5.1. The developers tell to add " deb http://cinelerra-cv.org/five/pkgs/mint trusty main " as a new repository, then to run the usual apt-get update and apt-get install cin When I use the update command, the package manager complains: Err:21 https://c...

Re: Triple boot set-up. How can all OSs be assigned same home folder?
Unfortunately, exFAT is a proprietary format that is not well handled by Linux. I use that format a lot in my tablets and smartphones. Linux Mint can see, read, and write to an exFAT partition, check its integrity but cannot mend a broken one with the exfat-fuse and exfat-utils packages. I also got ...

[Solved] Mint menu not touching the panel
Hello, After working for a while, the Mint menu does not appear anymore against the low panel as it should do but a few mm above it leaving a very small part of the desktop between the menu and the panel. Because the mouse is over the panel when I click on the Mint menu icon, I cannot reach the menu...

Re: How to recover Evolution data after an upgrade
You missed the point. The problem was not lost emails but format change from one Evolution version to the next. The emails were still in the computer but the new Evolution version changed the default place where the emails were stored and the software could not read the old format.

Re: Unable to locate wifi printer
I solved my problem, but it will probably not fit your situation. I had to drop the DNSSD protocol for the simple socket one. I do not know why in Wheezy based the former was needed and the later is requested with Jessie based LMDE. Good luck.

Same problem here with a Ricoh printer in the network. If you found a solution I would be happy to learn it. If I find one, I will post here my findings. Best regards.

Re: How to recover Evolution data after an upgrade
It is fun to see that almost two years after the first post people can still use it. It is pleasant to know. I gave up Evolution one year ago because there were too many bugs. I think it was becoming more buggy with each new version. I have used Thunderbird for more than 6 months, but the support fo...

Re: LMDE Thunderbird does not start anymore
Do not bother. I found the solution. For an unknown reason, the TB installation from the LMDE repository does not install an omni.ja file in /opt/thunderbird. I copied the one provided by the Mozilla version installation and it solved the problem. Should this be considered as a bug from Clem's versi...

Re: Mail Notification App
Install mail-notification. It notifies you in the notification area of the panel when a mail arrives. It works very well. You might also install mail-notification-evolution that gives support for Evolution.

[SOLVED] LMDE Thunderbird does not start anymore
I updated LMDE with the usual apt-get update and apt-get upgrade . Thunderbird (TB) 24 did not work well. I purged TB that also purged mint-meta-debian-mate and I installed the official TB from the Mozilla Web page to test whether the problem stemmed from TB or from Clem's version. It was a TB bug a...
